Hi Jessica, It is not uncommon to require a change in your medication after two years even if you have not undergone bariatric surgery. We tend to call this phenomenon the "poop out effect" (not real technical, I realize but you get the point). Over time your body accomodates to the medication and it can become less effective. You also may be absorbing the medication differently now given the surgery. Surgery patients should stay away from extended release medications which are not as effective in Roux-n-Y patients given the change in absorption. Hope this helps! Bethany Helfman, Psy.D. HI Jessica, I don't know any of the techinical stuff but do know that I was on several different kinds of antidepressants since surgery. Right now I am on Elavil-- the lowest dosage. I am so jittery & anxious feeling- I am a bigger grouch to everyone-- even people I don't know. This is DEFINATELY not me!! I need to go back and talk to the dr but he doesnt know much about-- well-- ANYTHING!! Still trying to get him together with Dr S to get all the required info for revision of my stoma-- waiting and waiting & waiting. I dont know whos problem it is but I am in the middle! Going for another pshye(?) eval this morning. I hope they can give me some insight on whats going wrong with the antidepressants. Good Luck De

Hi, I had to up my dosage of lexapro after my surgery. I could tell right away that the dose I was on was not working the way it had before my surgery. Talk to your doc! Holly

Jess, Like you... I have been on 100mg of Zoloft for over two years! In the last couple of months I have been having some real trouble with my dose! I have been working really closely with my doctor and we have come to the conclusion that the changes I am experiencing are because of the WLS surgery and the absorption..... I just had a bunch of bloodwork done and we are going to try adjusting the dose or the meds itself...... I actually have an appointment on Monday.... I will let you know what happens! Take care.... I feel your frustration! Nikki
