OK, 4 more days, lots of questions
I am beginning to ask myself tons of questions that I do not have the answers to I am determined to follow all orders but what if this surgery does not work? Have you ever known anyone who it hasnt worked on? I have told myself that I will exercise, and eat the right things so that I dont barf . There are lots of things going through my head right now, but this is the one that I am searching for an answer on for the moment. Please if you can.
We all go through those fears.
I do know of a few people for whom it hasn't worked. One used to use these boards and she blames it on failed surgeries (however a recent scoping showed her pouch had not stretched and is not too large) and on (of all things) being short. The fact is if you read what she says, she shoves donuts and ice cream and foods like that down her gullet every day and you just can't expect to eat foods like that and lose weight. If you follow the plan you will do just fine.
I have met one other person who failed at surgery but she had the older process where the new stomach and pouch are not disconnected and her staple line leaked which caused her stomach to return to normal size. A revision helped her and she is now losing weight at a fast rate.
The bottom line is there IS a reason we need psych approval, we have to have the right attitude and be willing to do our part, the pouch is just a tool, the rest is up to us. Or as i was told, the surgery (barring any strange complications) will cause us to lose 70% of our excess weight, keeping it off and losing the rest of our excess weight is up to us. We have to do our part. Anyone who tells you that WLS is the easy way out is lying. It's not easy, it just gives us the ability to overcome our demons. We still have to do the work.
If you're determined to follow your doctor's suggestions, excercise, go to your follow up appointments and go to support groups, you WILL succeed. You can bet on it.
it's my 2nd round because the first time they aborted the surgery due to my gallbladder blocking the "port". No wls was performed. the surgery was considered exploratory only. and i'm well aware of the fact that if i eat garbage, i will fail. no one considering this surgery should be misled into thinking anything differently. it is not a magic bullet.
"other website". if you think what goes on at that website has any basis in reality, you're being foolish. I wouldn't worry about "judgements" on that site.
I honestly have no idea why you are offended by what i said. The person i am talking about would tell me constantly about eating sugar sugar and more sugar. She didn't excercise and ate thousands of calories. Why would you be offended by my saying so? I didn't name anyone or point a finger at anyone, i'm simply stating an example, IF you eat the wrong food and ignore the advice of your surgeon and his staff, THEN you will not succeed at losing weight after surgery.
Offended? sorry it's still true.
I don't know what you're on about, i know someone who fits that description according to words she has said to me, and if you choose to judge me and put me down for it, so be it, i'm a big boy (literally) and i can take it.
as for the other board, do me a favor... post there. then tell me about it. lol. it's a FLAME board and if you post you will be initiated. you will have ten posts to do so and trust me, you better learn not to take it seriously and laugh about what's said or you're in for a real problem. Some of the people who you think are "judging" me the harshest are people i consider friends and I find what they say funny and you should know that the inside joke there is laughing at the people who take it to be real. Not that THAT has anything to do with the very serious subject being discussed here.
Seriously, if you think you can eat all that sugar and still be succesful i'd love to discuss it with you but otherwise i fail to see your point or where you're going with this.

sorry you judge that to be tacky, my next post will be submitted to you privately before being made public so you can help me with my word choices. i would hate to be considered tacky by someone who finds that "other board" entertaining. thank you for not judging.
Nice try Jennifer, but you are wasting your time. The truth is the truth no matter what is said (or written) to try to cover it up. Most of us here know very well what the truth is these days. Those that do not will learn soon enough I am sure.
The truth is ALWAYS more interesting(and funnier) than fiction, and I was certainly not born yesterday.
See ya at the skating party!

The surgery only works if you do. It gets you to a point by giving you a tool to help change your habits. You will have a year to relearn and undo what took you decades to mess up. Please remember to stay on the program after you reach your goal. We all bounce up a little as we stablize but it's easy to regain your old habits and pounds.
Use the tool properly
Monitor your health/pain
Keep a food log
Don't try to figure out how to cheat and when you are given a bad idea ignore it. Don't give in.
Learn to eat for life. Food is nothing but fuel.
Don't let negative people influence your goal. Your health is at stake.
Learn how to tell time and keep track of your intake. You have to regulate the release of nutrients into your system after sugery. Your pilorus did that for you before.
Don't feel bad when you barf. It may or may not happen but when it does it's part of the learning process.
WALK,WATER,PROTEIN.

Jennifer, I am 3 weeks out and I don't have a lot to offer. I do what I am suppose to do and sometimes things rebel. I was okayed to move to beans and I had 4 white beans and puked and it wasn't pretty. Its all a big learning thing. Everyone is different and everyone moves at a different rate. I am exercising and right now, I am committed to making this work. I went into this realizing that it would only work on my body, not my mind and all the same temptations and demons would still be around. Things are still gonna be the same in the world, only you have changed. Take it for what its worth, do the best you can and if you fall, get back up and dust yourself off and go at it again. There are no easy answers. Do what the doctor tells you. Get a hold on the things that brought you to this point in your life and do your damnest to change them. Make it work for you.
Good Luck.
