I'm getting closer!!!
Hello Everyone,
I just have to share as I'm so excited , but trying to air on the side of caution. For those of you that don't know my situation, here is a brief(try to be) summary.
I have NGS American(PPOM) insurance through my employer. Both myself and livlite were told via phone in September that coverage was possible pending certain medical criteria. Well, Thanksgiving weekend I get a rejection letter as there is an exclusion against wls and benefits were mis-quoted.
Next step, hubby is part time in the union on his job and qualifies for BCBS PPO. The monthly premium is up there, but worth paying if they cover wls, which they do. Hubby's probation period was extended(not due to work perfomance...long story) so that delayed getting BCBS. Well probation was lifted yesterday and we are covered effective tomorrow, 3/1!
I have decided to go for it and put this in God's hands. As long as livlite gets a pre-approval from BCBS I'm going for it and I'll deal with any problems with insurance, etc. as they come. The reason I worry is because BCBS will be my secondary insurance. I cannot drop NGS and since I'm the suscriber it has to remain my primary. There are a few reasons we feel we cannot drop NGS and I won't go into all of them now.
My only concern about BCBS is as a secondary can they reject paying just because my primary won't? If I have the letter from NGS stating there is an exclusion and this isn't a covered benefit will that be enough for BCBS to cover? I can't seem to get a straight answer on that and I get conflicting opinions. Does anyone have experience with having a secondary insurance pay for wls, or know anyone who does? I know some say the surgeon's office should be able to help with that. I have asked and they tell me to call and I don't get clear answers.
So, I'm excited that things seem to be moving in the right direction, but still confused about the insurance.
There are still March surgery dates open, yipee!! I also talked to the surgeon's office today and it's possible the surgeon may go ahead and have my filter placed and do the EGD while we wait for my insurance card.
Thanks for any advice/info and prayers, please!!
Thanks and hugs,
Shari
