Everyone has always been so supportive here. I need some extra prayers please. I'll have my thyroid out next monday. Dr. Obeid sent me to a wonderful surgeon, Dr. Talpos at Henry Ford in Detroit. So, I'm sure it will go fine. I just hate the idea of going through another procedure. Love ya all!

Are they removing your thyroid because it's overactive or what? Is it a gorder growing inward? Removal will mean you have to take synthroid for the rest of your life. My mother has been on it since 1974 and I know what happens if she misses even one day. I do wish you the best...

They found that I have multiple nodules (masses) in the thyroid. Several on the left side are hot (overactive) and one on the right which is cold (underactive). A cold nodule carries a slight risk of cancer. I've been feeling like I constantly have something wrapped around my throat, chocking me. So, they will remove the whole thyroid. Its very uncomfortable to live with, so it leaves little choice. Although I'm not looking forward to living on TSH for the rest of my life...I can't live with this feeling either.

Thanks for the explaination. My mom got to the point where she just wouldn't function! I mean, they'd do a knee jerk reflex on her and you could count to ten before she would react! I'm so glad you are taking care of this. My aunt died in 1980 because she had the growth blocking her windpope - of course it was her thyroid. It was sad because she was only in her 50's. Luckily, mom mom hasn't had to have surgery, as she is underactive, but has to take synthroid. If she misses even one dose, it shows up a week later. Best of luck to you and I hope that you will keep us informed of your progress.
