I am having my surgery done at Barix clinics. Does anybody out there know if there is a pre-op diet that they have you follow before your surgery? I have been VERY bad for the last two weeks (enjoying everything that I know I may never be able to eat again (chocolate and other junk). I have a week before the surgery (pre-op on Tues) and I just wonderd if there was a time that I should start behaving. I do hope that I will be able to enjoy my "last supper". I am planning to have crab legs. YUMMMMMMMM

Hi Jennifer, I had my surgery at Barix, which was called Bariatric Treatment Center, 6.5 years ago. At that time, there was no pre-op diet. Now, I understand, that some people may have to be on one, depending on which surgery they are having and how much they weigh pre-op. You will be able to have chocolate again and Crab Legs too. You will just switch to sugar-free chocolate. Crab Legs dipped in garlic butter made with Butter Buds that you have liquified and cooked with chopped garlic are delicious and healthy too. I thought I would have to say good-bye to a lot more foods than I had to in actuality. Anything I am hungry for, I have learned how to get in a healthy way. You'll see, don't be afraid you will never eat again. I lost 120 lbs to goal the first year and have maintained my weight within 3-5 pounds since. Have you attended a Support Group yet? Barix has wonderful Groups all over the state. I am a Group Leader for the Howell/Livingston Co. group. In the 5 years I have done this, I have met hundreds of people who have been successful while using the tool of the surgery, the advise of the Nutritionists and who have attended a Support Group on a regular basis or who have made friends with fellow RNY/or Banders from Barix. We all help each other achieve what we want to achieve. I'm thinking good thoughts for you. Get ready for a wonderful adventure!! Together in the Journey, Sharna

Hi Jennifer: I had my RNY at Barix on November 22, 2005, and couldn't have been more pleased with my care/aftercare! My pre-op diet consisted of liquids the day before my surgery with nothing to eat or drink after midnight. How's that for a pre-op diet? lol. Like you, the whole week before my surgery I made every meal my last supper. But you know what? I'm only three months out and there isn't really anything that I can think of that I had to "give up." There are things that I choose not to eat now...and I may have to prepare my "favorite" things differently to conform to my new pouch rules but I don't feel like I am missing out on a thing. I just had my 3 month labs drawn and all my levels are perfect. As a matter of fact, I lowered my cholesterol 61 points! I'm sure you've heard this before but nothing tastes as good as thin feels! In my case, substitute the word "healthy" for thin. Anways...best of luck to you as you start this fantastic journey. Being a Barix girl myself, I'd be glad to answer any questions you might have. Take Care! Maria W.
