I'm In Labor

Well, not like pregnency labor... but it sure feels like it tonight. My hernia didn't like dinner at all!!!! I ate about 3oz of medium cooked steak and a salad. Now, about an hour later.... it hurts like crazy. My hernia is WAY buldged out and I swear the pains come and go like contractions. Which is quite funny since I've been holding on to my stomach like a prenant woman does! It crazy I know. Yesterday the only way I could relieve the pain was to literally pick up the buldging hernia and push my "inards" over to the left side of my stomach. Erin - you can stop laughing now, it's not THAT funny. I know you're getting quite a kick out of this. And to think you "want" a hernia!!! I'm going to try a hot shower and see if I feel any better. This SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laurie - still waiting on good old AETNA to approve my surgery

Hey Laurie: I wonder if avoiding the salad would help you out? I have really awful pains from gas building up in my guts when I eat salad, and onions, and brocolli, and lots of other greens. I don't have any problems with a hernia, of course, but the pain is HORRIBLE from that gas. (At least until it works it's way out of me!) KP ought to love that! It does help to lay in a warm tub of water for me sometimes. Hope you get to feeling better. Geez, seems Aetna wouldn't have to approve you for a hernia surgery, or is this for a TT, too? Let me know how it goes. Love, Pam

I didn't really think about the salad. I've never had problems with it before. But after this - I'm MORE then willing to give up whatever is the cause. UGH Laurie

Yikes...Laurie...that stinks!!! So DOES food bother a hernia??? I was thinking I was getting one, but it seems to be aggravated by food so then I thought NO, it must not be a hernia!!! Of course it hasn't been bothering me lately (can this be something that comes and goes) so when I just had my follow up with my surgeon, I totally forgot to even mention it to him cuz it hasn't been bothering me!! Hmmm, now I'm beginning to wonder!!! Sure hope that Aetna approves your surgery soon!!!! Hope you have found some way to get some relief this evening!!! Hugs, Cheryl

Food bothers a hernia - YUP!! For me, most days are not anywhere near this bad. But it is getting worse as time goes by. Mine is cantelope size. CORI's hernia test is to lay flat on the floor and do 1/2 of a sit up. If you can feel something sticking out of the incisional area then it's probably a hernia. Although sometimes they're not "developed" enough to be felt yet. They're definately no fun!!! I hope that is not what you have. Laurie

Well if I have a hernia, it's not very big at this point in time!! I do get this feeling like I've been punched in the stomach after I eat sometimes...like after eating a salad last night!!! And sometimes during/after working out!! And then if I push down in that area, it is very tender!! But it's not my incision area, it's more down by my belly button!! Hmm, guess I'll have to pay closer attention to it...but honestly it hasn't been bothering me...until I ate a salad last night...so maybe salad is the culprit!!!! Cheryl

oh Laurie i'm so sorry you feel bad. I know this pain, it happens when i eat too many veggies , especially mushrooms....and it feels like someone punched me in my gut. It lasts me a while, then i'm sore a few days. Do you have any pain meds? Gas x helps some too. Hugs Linda

HI LAURIE my hubby can sympathize with you. back in the early winter he had bad stomach pains but the docs didnt wanna tend to the problem yet cuz he had to have open heart surgery and they wanted to fix the heart then fix the stomach. well he had a herniated bowel and will have surgery to take care of it he just has to make sure the heart is healed before he has another surgery, they said he can have the surgery in 2-3 weeks, his hernia isnt bothering him now but oh goodness it was hurting him so bad last week he couldnt even get about of bed. January 27 he had a triple bypass heart surgery. hsi heart is doing great just gotta get the hernia fixed now. take care and hope things beside the hernia are going okay. keep in touch miss ya
