Sweet Cravings
I was reading thru messages about sweet cravings (someone 5 months post op, like me) and came across this:
February 16, 2006
What are your labs showing? According to this, it could be B-vitamin deficiency. Are you taking your B Vitamins every day? B-vitamin deficiencies result in less of the stored glycogen in the liver being converted to glucose (blood sugar). This lowered blood sugar in the brain results in craving for sweets and a corresponding increased intake of refined sugar. It's a vicious circle - sugar produces magnesium deficiencies and magnesium deficiencies produce craving for more sugar!
What do you think? My bloodwork was ok for the 3 month post op and I'm due for a 6 month post op bloodwork in a few weeks...
Well, it took me about 6 weeks to hear something - a few days after my birthday did I get the news. While it may take a longer or shorter time for you, you will get a response in the mail. Mine was SEVEN pages long! I did, however, get a phone call for them telling me the good news a few days before I got the actual decree.
I wish you the best and as soon as you hear something positive, make your appointments. I had to wait TWO MONTHS before I could get in and if I had to wait for the insurance company to tell me that the decision has been overturned in my favor, I might only be a few months out instead of five!
Good luck!!
Hi Rhonda,
That's interesting. Thanks for posting about the B deficiencies and sweet cravings.
One of the members of my support group researched sugar and found that Cocaine and Sugar have only 2 molecules difference between them. Isn't that an eyeopener!!!!??? I guess there are a lot of reasons we crave sugar and it is so hard to stay away from for so many.
I think I'll up my B vits. Have a great day

Boy is that intesting,
I have had a deficiency for a long time even pre-op. It sure would explain alot. I do take maga doses of B Complex a couple of times a day. I always know when I am getting really low, My mouth becomes extremely sensitive, and my lips will crack. It is a symptom of one of the deficiencies of one or more of the B's. I would love to know where they got the info. I have been doing alot of research on B deficinecy and I would like to know more. Thanks for the FYI. God Bless---toni
