Why am I hungry?

Hi Everyone, I am two weeks post-op (RNY) and yesterday my hunger switch was turned back on. I spent most of the day hungry, even within an hour after eating a meal. Is this a sign to eat more food? I haven't been drinking a lot during the day, could this be the problem? I would appreciate your input. Thanks Mary Jo

I have no idea, but I have the same problem, except I do ok with the fluids. This is NOT "head hunger". I'll be reading to see what others have to say. Chele

You're right. This is not "head hunger". Hope to hear from the experienced ones on the board. You and I are close on our surgery dates, so I bet we'll have a lot in common. Keep in touch. Mary Jo

I'm close to your date as well, but sorry, I've not experienced hunger except once and I was actually hungry at that time. I was curious about your question though and hope someone with experience can answer you soon.

It was about 2 weeks for me too when the hunger started. I really don't know why, or what to do about it though. I think liquids would be the first thing and best thing to try especially only two weeks out. I was shocked because I was given the impression that I would not get hungry. Some people never do, I guess. I would give anything to not be hungry. I would suggest to call your doctor to see what the best thing to do. You dont want to put too much strain on a new pouch. Some protein drinks would help too, I would think. Good Luck Mary Jo! Cheryl

Hi Cheryl I too thought my hunger would stay away. The doctor really didn't have much to say other than I should be on puree food at this stage. Maybe I am eating too fast and it's going through my stomach quickly instead of sitting in there to give me a full feeling. This is going to be a long learning process!! Thanks for the input. Mary Jo
