Life Insurance After Surgery?

Hi Everyone: Hope you are all having a great weekend. As I was skimming the board tonight, I read a post in which someone mentioned the possibility of not being able to obtain life insurance after having WLS. Can any of you comment on this? I certainly hope that is not true...especially since the whole point of surgery is to add years to your life. This prospect is rather disconcerting to me... Maria W.

My husband and I can get the guaranteed amounts that come with starting a new job. There is always the option of adding coverage at your own cost. We have been turned down for extended benefits two years in a row. They always say because of our WLS. We were turnded down previous to that because of our weight. Go figure. I know I have read that this is very common.

Before surgery I was turned down twice because of me being a diabetic and my weight. After surgery I had to wait 1 year and I was able to get life insurance through Gleaners. The rate was a little higher but once I am out two years (come May) the rate will go down. Hope this helps. Patsy
