Hi i am almost 7 months out now and I do enjoy a daily glass of diet pop...Which is so weird because before surgery I did not even like pop....weird but just wondering who does drink pop and how often and if you have ever had any problems someone said your pouch can explode? That sounded a lil out there but now I am scared.... Hugs Jess 350/225/150

I have not really had pop at all since the surgery. I tried a sip of Diet Coke once and I was really disgusted by it. I can drink diet A and W on a good day but I have to have the taste for it. I do not drink it on a regular basis. I drink Propel daily. The concept of the pouch exploding is weird. I would like to know that one for sure. Suzanne 300/155/150

My daughter's pouch expanded and she had to have a revision. Her original surgery was in 2000 and her revision was this last year.

Which surgery did she have and did it expand because of POP? I need more details... Jess

if her surgeon says it expanded due to soda, i'd like to meet him and talk to him.

Ok...I'm the daughter and what she posted is partially true. My pouch didn't really expand, the anastomosis (opening between the pouch and the intestine) widened to 30mm. I was addictied to pop prior to the revision. That was all I drank from morning to night. It may not have caused the problem, but it didn't by any means help! My surgeon who did the revision, Dr. Obeid, has a list of No-No's . No Pop, No Caffeine, No Alcohol...EVER!! His success rate following his surgeries is extremely high. That's enough for me! I know he has his reasons, so...I'm sticking to the rules. There are no 3rd chances with this procedure. We all did this for a reason...why even think of temping fate? Follow the rules! Enough Said!

Jessica~ I was really addicted to diet coke prior to surgery so I gave it up before surgery. I really missed it but I was told by the staff at CCWL that I would never be allowed to drink carbonation unles it was flat (yuck!). I was never told my pouch would explode but they did say the bubbles would cause uncomfortable bloating. I got over my "addiction" so now I don't even tempt myself with taking a sip. I drink lots of crystal light but no soda. For myself, it's a road I am not willing to go down. That's my 2 cents! Sandra

For a while after surgery I did not drink it as it caused me great discomfort. Now, at almost 2.5 years out I have no trouble. I know pop is not good for anyone in alot of ways. I know all of the arguments against drinking it as well. I am an addict and cannot stop. I do not smoke, do drugs, or rely on food anymore. I exercise, eat well and treat myself right these days. Diet pepsi is my one vise. It has not stretched my pouch or caused it to explode. For health reasons alone, I would say do not do it if you can help it. I wish I could get off of it. I am weak.

Jess, I drink an occasional diet Mtn. Dew.... it seems like it has been more frequent lately because I have had it in the house.... but that is the only one I have found that I can drink right out of the can without letting it go flat first! Don't be scared.....
