Sugar Free Ketchup, Anyone?
Hello Fellow OH'ers:
I have looked all over our tiny city for some form of ketchup that falls into our dietary guidelines. Do any of you out there use and/or know where I can find ketchup that doesn't have corn syrup as the second ingredient? I know I, myself, probably wouldn't use it very often, but it would be tons better for the fam too.
Thanks guys! Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

Here is a recipe. This is not mine, so I cannot take the credit. I have not tried it either, but it sounds good.
3 cups tomato sauce -- or canned tomatoes - I used sauce
2 teaspoons onion powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves -- cinnamon, allspice.
2 tablespoons artificial sweetener -- (2 to 3)
1/2 cup white vinegar
How To Prepare: Mix everything in a saucepan and simmer slowly about and hour and a half.
Makes a really nice thick ketchup that'll last a while in the fridge.
Hi Maria,
I got mine from Kroger, in the "healthy section" (I don't know what it's called) Where they sell the golean cereal, organic juices etc. I bought
Naturally Preferred organic tomato ketchup. Ingredients:organic tomato puree, organic sugar, organic white vinegar, salt, onoin powder, and organic spices. Nutritional facts:Serving size 1 Tbsp., Calories 15, Total fat 0, Cholestrol 0, sodium 150, Total carbs.3, Sugars 2, protein 0
As you can see although organic sugar is listed second in the ingerdients it only has 2 grams. I hope this helps.
God bless you,
Annette
Hi Maria -
Steel's Gourmet makes a sugar free/Splenda ketchup. If you have a low carb store near you, you should be able to find it there.
Otherwise you can usually get it at:
http://www.bariatriceating.com
http://store.yahoo.com/carbsmart/index.html
And actually, Carbsmart carries Drew's gourmet salad dressings which are to die for but often sold out - just checked again today. Should they ever come back in, they can be used as a marinade or to mix up in ground meat to give it a different flavor. The Kalamata olive is awesome.
How are you feeling?
Best,
Michele
Thanks, everybodeee! What a plethora of great suggestions to choose from.
I am feeling GREAT and am 11 lbs. from my first personal goal. To celebrate, much to my mother's chagrin...lol, I will be celebrating with either a belly ring or a new tattoo! (leaning towards the belly ring though) Also, I am really excited because tonight I am going clothes shopping for the first time. Our Fashion Bug is having a kick butt sale and I'm gonna be scarfing up all the good deals! Hopefully I will have good news to report!
Take care, guys...and thanks again!
