OT "michigan left"
Good question...I've lived in MI all but two years of my life and I still don't know the legal answer to this question, although everyone seems to do it. I grew up in a small town, with no medians, so I never had to face this issue until I moved near Ann Arbor 6 years ago. I just go with the flow. Do you think "Everyone else was doing it!" is a good defense for a ticket? LOL
Oh, that would be breaking the law, as you would be crossing a red light to get to the intersection where the traffic would be going left.
Example
West Bound Traffic
Median
East Bound Traffic
Say you are going north and then want to go west. The East - West street is one that has a median. You must turn right, get in the far left lane and turn at the "turn around". At that point you are going west; hence, you just made a "Michigan Left".
If you turn left onto a one way street/road, make sure both the street/road you are on and the street/road you are turning onto are both one way traffic. You can not (legally) turn left on a red, if the street/road you are on has two way traffic. Hopes this helps.
God bless you,
(and your efforts to drive in Michigan),
Annette
