Visit with PCP today
I had the 'initial' visit today with my PCP. I came well prepared. I had taken in a list of all my past diets and their time frame, my gym memberships, weight history, what I am currently doing now. I also listed all my 'problems' such as back pain, infertility, shortness of breath... you all know those problems I am talking about. The first question he asked me was 'how frustrated are you with all this right now?' My response was 'I am to the point that I have been researching weight loss surgery'. The look on his face was comforting, almost as though he was glad that I had been researching and have basically made the choice to become a healthier person. He did not say "I think you should do this surgery". Instead, he said (in so many words...) "This is YOUR decision to make. Will it help you in the long run? Sure. You already know the possible 'risks' you will encounter with the path you are currently following. Sure there are risks with having the surgery as it is a major surgery, but it is up to you to compare those risks and then make your decision. If you decide to have surgery, I will be behind you 110 percent and forward whatever medical records in your file that will be needed to get the approval." Since the information I brought in was so detailed he is going to have it transfered into my file so they have everything they need for 'medically approved' history.
My husband went with me and asked the doctor about the risks with the surgery. My doctor said that I am basically healthy, other than my weight. I do not YET have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems.... so he feels that I do not have 'additional' risks beyond the surgery risk. Which is a good thing!
Now my next step is a seminar to get this thing going!
Michelle
Cheryl,
My PCP is AWESOME! I have been with him for so long that when I walk through the door they know not only my face, but they know my name! Scarey!!!
I see your surgeon was Dr. Marshall. I am leaning towards him. The next seminar there is 2/25 and 3/15. I am trying to figure out which one to attend.
