Hello all--I have a question. I was told to get Calcium Citrate plus D after my surgery, which I have. When I ran out I mistakenly picked up Calcium Carbonate plus D. My question is, because I have this huge bottle of the wrong stuff. Why do the doctors want you to take one and not the other and shall I get the right ones or use these up? Thanks Herb

My surgeon says either, or. The citrate is more readily absorbable by WLS patients, I guess. So, you may have to take a little extra of the carbonate. I would call your nutritionist and ask...every surgeon/nute has a different protocol. I take calcium carbonate and it doesn't bother me. My levels are fine. But check with your surgeon/nute, just to verify. Good luck! Tina

Herb, the carbonate in the calcium is the same as carbonate in soda pop. It causes too much fizz/gas in your new pouch. Sheryl In the Zoo 369/315/???

Thanks for the come back Sheryl. The carbonate dose not seem to bother me, probably because I am over six months post-op. I will most likely check with Spectrum before I buy the citrate. Thanks Herb
