5 for 2-1-05
1. How much water do you average per day? and what source is it?
Getting better at the water, but since I have to eat every 2 hours to keep my nausea at bay, and I can't drink within 30 min of eating, I'm only getting about 45-60 oz. in - for now. Bottled spring water and Propel flavored water are all I drink, with an occasional cup of decaf tea.
2. How much protein do you average per day? and what source is it?
That's the toughie! Right now probably about 50-60 grams. Every mix, shake, drink I've tried has made me so nauseated, and I've tried 'em all. I finally ordered the Profect protein from Protica and they're the only thing I can drink that doesn't make me feel like One 2.7 oz serving is 25 grams of protein. The rest comes from food - mostly cheeses and ground beef.
3. Name the local support group that you go to. Why do you go?
You're attending it right now! Haven't gone to any local groups, just this board. It's all I need right now.
4. Name one benefit that this surgery has brought to you.
From day one: type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, gastric reflux, high cholesterol - all gone! I'm down from taking 13 medications a day to 2, with my allergy med and rescue inhaler only as needed. I can walk distances without wheezing or having to rest, my arthritis is greatly improved, I can get out of bed without a problem, and everyone at work is calling me skinny! NEVER thought that would happen!
5. And the million dollar question, If you had to do it all over again, would you?
Yes. Did I say yes? I meant Y-E-S!!!! I've been lucky in that I have had no complications from the surgery so far, except some excessive nausea but eating every 2 hours keeps that from returning. I'm looking forward to riding bikes with my daughter when the weather gets nice, walking more than a mile a day, going to Cedar Point and not having to "test" the seats of the rollercoasters to see if I fit on them!
1. I average about 70oz. of water. I do drink sugar free Koolaid with Spenda
2. I am not sure of my protein, I should check it out for the next few days. I do drink a protein shake every morning and eat protein first at meals.
3. My support group is with my physician (Dr. Pleatman) and I go for the guest speakers and I have made so many friends there.
4. Other than my health this surgery gave me back my pride in myself.
5. Yes, I would do it again and recommend the surgery to others struggling with this overwhelming obesity problem.
