$60 for my medical records???
I just received a letter this week stating that due to Michigan law, my previous PCP is charging me $60 to copy my records and send them to my new PCP. (so much per page..) Has ANYONE heard of this law? Nobody i speak to has ever heard of paying for your medical records. Just curious....I can pay it, but why should I?
I work for a doctor's office and yes we charge for records. The first few pages are free but after that its per page. So if you have a big chart..more money. We have a service that comes to copy our's and they charge also. Some places may do it free of charge but most don't. It does suck but they have to be paid for their services SOrry

Might be listed under the HIPPA laws. Although I have never had to pay for my medical records, I do request to see them often or look at them so I can see what is going on with myself.
It's odd, that after requesting my Xrays, I learned from the reports I have a small sliding hiatal hernia I never knew about. No one had told me, nor had anyone discussed this with me. Just making copies for your own records is good, but read them also.

Wow! My PCP was nice enough to copy the records for me ONCE...free of charge. After that, apparently, there is a fee. Although it is horrible to have to shell it out, it's definitely worth it's weight in gold. My thought? Once you get your hooks on em, I'd make a couple of personal copies just incase!
Good luck to you.
