Yeah Jill, I thought about that too, using vacation time for the surgery I have about 4 weeks give or take a few days. I also thought what if I have complications and needed more time. I was told by Dr Wood I would need 4-6 weeks but he could let me go back in 4 if everything went good. I'm going to put in for a 5 week vacation at the end of April next week and see if it is approved, everyone else only put in for 2-3 weeks. It will be obvious what I need the time for, but who cares, by April I will have it anyway and at that time I am willing to say SCREW them. Diva

I worked for the state for 20 years, and in fact, left the state under medical leave. At the time I left (about 6 years ago) you had to use 14 days of your own time, and then your LTD would kick in. It seems that you have enough time to have earned vacation time. IS it tied to the 1/2 year hours requirement? 1080 is it? If so, you must be close to the sixth month mark. If you have "status" there should be no problem with a sick leave. Good luck!

Do you belong to a union? Have you had other medical leaves? What Dept do you work for?

I had to reschedule my surgery because my supervisor would not approve my leave. They told me they had to have 30 days notice according to the FMLA laws. If they push you push back...I was told this was elective (yeah right) surgery. Keep fighting...
