HOLY MOLY! My surgery cost HOW much??????
Sheryl: I just looked up my bills from April, DANG! I had hospital costs of $11,906.50, surgeon cost of $5,500, surgeon assistant $500, and anesthesiologist of $1,134.60 GRAND TOTAL: $19,041.10 for RNY on 4/12/05
The average for RNY is $20,000 to $25,000 in our area. I know you had a longer time in the hospital, but still!
I ended up paying $8.40 to the anesthesiologist, so the coverage was really good for the surgery. I did end up paying $500+ for the three month program before surgery, however, to get approval. Still think it was the best money spent for getting ready for the changes AFTER surgery.
Thanks for telling us the amount, Sheryl. Take care and hope you're doing great! Love, Pam
Hey Pam! I am doing great!
I sure wish they had detailed more than what they did list. Here is what they did list:
CCU $3175
Room & board (their words) $2730
Operating room $28,910 (yes this is not a typo)
Diag. radiology (must be the barium swallow) $2387
Lab $1779
Misc special room $881
Neuro consult $312
Diagnostic services $667
Physical therapy $290
Occupational therapy $204
Hospital services (what ever this is) $29258.
That said, my insurance paid......$11,957.99
That's one heck of a write-off!

Yes, thank goodness for wonderful insurance. Having had major complications, subsequent hospitalizations, and 12 weeks of IV antibiotic therapy afterwards you might be just a bit shocked to see the total on my hospital bills alone without the IV therapy........... $498,798.00+ Yeah that is half a million!!! by the time you add my IV therapy in it was well over that .5 mil mark it is no wonder there is a new wing on the hospital named after me
