Assistance with picking a DR. at MMPC, Grand Rapids
I am looking at having WLS. I should be approved in the next couple of days. The only thing is I am hearing some pretty weird stories about different doctors. I am with MMPC in Grand Rapids I would like to stay with them because I really enjoy their staff. My issue is I have 2 friends that have had the surgery and tell me do NOT use the Dr. they used. Well that only leaves one and nobody I know has had them.
I am very scared to begin with so if anyone can give me some suggestions on who they had and how they liked them it would be of great comfort.
Thanks,
David-
The staff and Dr.'s at MMPC are great. My surgeon is Dr. Paul Kemmeter. He has been so kind and considerate. I have had major complications and it isn't his fault that my body reacted the way it did to this surgery. He and the staff along with the other Dr's have been there for me whenever I have had a problem. I recommend then to you very highly.

I had Dr. Baker and I absolutely loved him. He was extremely experienced (I wanted a Doc that had done LOTS of surgeries) and he was very personable & caring. My surgery was lap and I came thru great...we joked that I could be the "poster child" for lap RNY...I had absolutely no problems.
It is scary but it's worth it in the end. I am so glad I had the surgery I only wish I had done it sooner.
Good luck!

I'm glad you put this question on here! I'm looking at the doctors at MMPC as well. I will be attending the general seminar on Jan. 30th. I want a doctor that knows what he or she is doing! I have only read good things mostly about all three doctors at MMPC. I'm leaning towards Dr. Baker though; he seems to have more experience.
I'm also research some other doctors. Any one who has experiences with them I would love to hear about it. Dr. Jeff Ganaw working out of Henry Ford Hospital and Dr. Charles Stone from Goshen, IN
Best of luck on your choice I'm sure you will make the right one, and everything will go smoothly!

Dr. Baker preformed my surgery and I really like him. Dr. Foote did the orientation I attended and was very good - patient and answered all questions. I think the entire staff at MMPC is great. They are all willing to take the time to answer all your questions.
I thought about having this surgery for 2 years before going ahead with it. When I decided to have it, I found MMPC online and read as much as I could - bought the book "The real skinny on weight loss surgery". It's is authored by a couple of people who had the surgery (by Dr. Baker) and is excellent - answered most of my questions before even seeing the doctor. There are also chapters by Dr. Baker, Carrie Liebrock (nutritionist) and Scott Glass (psychologist).
Because I did so much research before hand, I knew pretty much what I was getting into - risks, complications, successes, etc. I was not at all nervous and for the most part have done really well.

I had Dr Foote and I also had major complcations and he stuck by me through everything and tried his best to get the help that I needed to get better. He even gave me 500.00 to go to Mayo clinic out of his own pocket. What surgeon would do that for a patient. I recommend him as one of the best surgeons in the practice. Good luck in your choice and on your journey. Tricia
