Had first appointment with dietitian
And frankly, she scared me!!!!
She said that over half of her paitents can not tollerate chicken, or any red meat.. even after 1 year or more out. She said that after surgery when we are permitted to eat meat we shouldn't eat pork, beef, or game meats; such as, venison, or bear. (she uses the term "red meat" for pork, beef, venison, bear, elk.. anything with 4 legs.)
I am a huge chicken and game eater now. I don't mean I eat allot in a sitting but do eat it quite often.
The dietition said we should eat fish, fish and more fish, and legumes.
I just don't like many of the legumes, and I can't imagine eating them. I like fish, but can't imagine having it more than 2 times a week. Not like she was saying, 2 times a day at least 4 days of a week.
This woman has never had WLS, herself. She also said that we should be going out and buying all different kinds of protien drinks and powders to try out to see what we like. I have read on this board, more than once, not to do that as your taste changes after surgery.
So, I am unsure now. I just worry about it now, and have to so some serious thinking, if what she says is true.
Any advice?? What can you eat, if you are post op and on solids?
I have an appointment for my pysch evaluation on the 31st. I am lucky, however, as those are the only 2 pre op tests I have to have done. But I have had most of the tests required done this past summer, due to another medical problem.
Anyway, thanx for letting me vent, and for any responses.

Hello RN,
I had my surgery 3 months ago and I'm doing well with pork fish chicken
turkey but not allowed to eat red meat(beef****il 6 months due to sometimes it can be dry therefor harder to swallow or high fat .But I don't understand your dietitian . I seen my dietitian each month I 've gone into the doctor's office .She hasn't had wls but works right with my doctor. Each Doctor is different but I think something doesn't sound right with that dietitain. aLSO DON'T TRY THE PROTEIN DRINKS BEFORE HAND YOUR RIGHT THEY WILL TASTE DIFFERENT TO YOU AFTER!
bEST OF LUCK TO YOU i HOPE i HAVE HELP SOME??? SUE
Everybody is different, I tolerated chicken, but I am 1 1/2 years out, and still cannot tolerate eggs. I like the soy meats the most. They are easy to digest and I really like the taste. Nothing better than a BOCA burger. That is my favorite meal. They also have a lot of protein in them with very little fat. I hated green vegetable prior to surgery, but I cannot eat enough green beans or asparagus now. Go figure. I was never a beef eater before, so I do not each much beef now. A lot of things change after surgery. I have eaten the same breakfast for 1 year, and I am not tired of it, I look forward to it every morning. Carol
I eat a lot of pork and my dietitian told me that venison and other game meats would stay down best for me. I try to stay away from red meats right now, it was suggested that I should stay away from them until about 6 mths out.
Biggest thing, R, everyone is different and what one person tolerats others can't. Right now any protein suppliment I try to take comes right back up so it really does no good to try them ahead of time to find something you like. Although the extra protein certainly won't hurt you if you want to drink them!!
