How long in hospital after Open RNY?

I'm having Open RNY at Harper with Dr. Wood on Monday morning, bright and early. When they say I'll be in the hospital for roughly 3 days, does that mean I can come home on Wednesday? When is the earliest I can blow outta there, assuming no complications arise? Chele

Ah - I had the same thoughts - but not so, Grasshopper. Sorry - I get silly this time of night. Anyway - day of surgery is day 0. So in your case, Monday is 0, Tuesday is day 1, Wednesday is day 2 and Thursday is day 3. I knew I needed more attention day 2 than I was going to get at home with two children under 5. Day 3, I was totally ready to go home- showered, had makeup on, packed and waited for the family to arrive. But everyone is different - you may not face the joy of said young children, one distressed husband, two dogs and two cats all vying for your attention when you feel like caca. Had I not faced that, I'm sure I'd have gone home earlier - I had demanded early release on three previous abdominal surgeries so no reason to think I'd have been different otherwise. I was certainly crabby and tired of people poking me every four hours. Have a good night - think good thoughts! Best, Michele P

That's helpful, Michele...thanks. I wasn't sure. In my case, I will face one (probably completely frazzled by then) hubby, 5 kids including 13 month old twins... ..(oh and one cat who could probably care less!) I've never been away from the babies and I'm not looking forward to it. I AM, however, looking forward to getting this over and done with. Chele

Chele I had surgery on Thursday and went home on Saturday. So it would make sense that you'd go home on Wednesday (based on your assumption). Wishing you the very best!!!!! Hugs, Laurie
