hi everyone... I have been reading this forum for a while now. I was very optimistic on getting this surgery done, And now I am feeling very scared at all your extra surgerys, and being sick.. Is this surgery that bad? I am only 29 yrs old. I have three small children. I want to enjoy life. {thats why I wanted to get this done} not be sick all the time!!

Darlene - For those of us in the first month out, we tend to have some troubles. It takes us a while to figure out what we can and can't each as each pouch has a mind of it's own. I think by and large - most people who have done this and are more than 6 - 7 months out (have lost weight, figured out what they can eat, etc.) are more able to tell you from their perspective why they are happy with it. I did this - with 2 small children - because I want to be an active mom and able to play/run/chase/coach soccer for & with them. The fact of the matter is, at my old weight I couldn't possibly do that. So, I viewed this as a decision I needed to make now while I could still hope to play that role in their life. Good luck with whatever decision you make, Best, Michele P

Thank you for your response, I understand that everyone is different with their surgeries, troubles with ilnesses, and etc. I still want to have this surgery done, I just got really scared at all the after effects of the surgery. I have three small children as well and want this for some of your same reasons, but mostly for my health. I guess with all surgeries there is that "fear", but nontheless I just wanted to be reassured that I will be okay if I get the surgery done. God Bless, Darlene

Darlene-- I just had my lap band done at the Port Huron Hospital ( 01/06/06). I was back to work on 01/13/06. I will say that it wasn't a piece of cake but I do feel better and I got stronger every day. I am following my diet plan and losing weight. I have found that alot of the wonderful people in this WL community have had the RNY WLS. I do believe that the lap band is less evasive than the RNY and you have fewer complications. Why the choice for the CORI system when you have the PHH group? Just wondering. Good luck in your journey. God Bless-- Sam

Hi sam, Thanks for your reply and Congratulations on your surgery!! That is very exciting! I do want the lap band done, I was just scared I guess of the after effects of the whole thing. I REALLY am looking and hoping for this to be accepted by my insurance. So to answer your question. That is why I have to have it done at Cori center. PHH does not accept patients with Great Lakes. I had went to the seminar there last year, and that is how I came to the conclusion of wanting this surgery done. Believe me, if I could have it done at PHH, I would Love it!!! I live only two blocks from PHH. A lot closer than Harper Hosp. That's for sure!! Thanks again, God Bless, Darlene
