New insurance, Do I have to wait 6 mo.?
If you did not have insurance prior to obtaining your current carrier, there may be a waiting period for pre exisitng conditions. That clause varies and some companies can choose to waive this with the insuance company. You will need to ask your employer if this applies to you. Sometimes the wait can be 12 months. This all depends on what the employer elects.
Hi Steph!
Terri's right, check with the Human Resources dept. to find out if there's a pre-existing condition clause to your plan. Usually the insurance company is looking for any condition you have been taking medication for or sought medical treatment for during a certain amount of time prior to your eligibility for insurance. The nice thing is that not every plan has a pre-existing condition clause, so it's worth checking out, yours may not have one. Either way, it's worth the wait if you do, in fact, have to, so don't be disheartened!!!

congrats on the insurance! Terri and Lizzie are right check with your employer in the mean time, I would suggest that you start going to see your primary care doctor and start documenting weight loss (BCBS requires 12 month doctor supervised weight loss attempt and exercise) I know this sounds but just to cover your bases you may want to start now while you are waiting for coverage. If you have already done this, please forgive me for assumong you did not know this already, I just hate to see disappointment when you are excited and only to be told no 12 month diet no surgery Good Luck!!
