Your not going to believe this

Hey all, I finally got my last denial letter from HAP would you believe it is dated November 10, 2005. I have 60 days from that date to appeal to the state insurance commission, which is 5 days from today. I cannot believe they did this to me. I was told they would send me everything I would need to do the appeal on the state level and they didn't send me a copy of my medical records. I called Henry Ford to see if they could send me at least the last years records so I could send that in and the lady told me that they were running behind and that it would take 5 to 9 days for them to get to it. I am f****d big time now. I don't see how I can do this. I'm gonna see if my doctor can help me expedite this in any way. I am also going to see if the state will give me an extension. Gosh, I am so pissed off right now, I can't see straight. And they said it couldn't get any worse. aaaaarrrrgggggghhhhh!!!!!! Any ideas???? Cheryl

HAP sucks. I would certainly save the envelope in came in with the post mark date on it. I would then call and raise a stink with HAP.

Cheryl, how horribly aggravating. What did they give as their reason for denial this time? Ive been following along with your saga cuz I also have HAP and Im worried I'll go through the same thing. HAP is my only option. Cash is not an option for me and I have no other insurance option that covers surgery. I'll be very disappointed and upset if I get denied. I really can feel your pain.

Cheryl, don't give up. I just did a quick survey of all the HAP patients listed under Insurers. 107 people are registered as having HAP. Of those 107, 80 were approved either on first letter or appeal, 4 were approved after taking legal action (not sure if this is the same as a state appeal?), 7 have not updated as to whether or not they were approved or denied, and only 16 have responded as denied. What Im getting at....the odds are still in your favor. Fight the good fight and don't give up. Is your doctor through Henry Ford or an outside facility? I just can't see why they are still denying you when you clearly meet the HAP criteria for WLS.

Cheryl take a deep breath and let it out slow! Now the fight begins. Call the state insurance commision first thing in the morning, if you haven't already done that. See what they say. What was the reason they gave for your denial? What do you need to send to the state commision? We will not let them get away with this! Even if we have to hold fundraisers to hire an attorney~ and I mean that!!! Call me tomorrow and let me know what they say. Do you still have my number? Let me know ok? YOU WILL WIN THIS BATTLE! God bless you Cheryl, Love ya, Annette

First, take a DEEP breath and don't panic! I had to go thru the state as a last resort after HAP denied me too. Hell, all they would tell me is that I FAILED the psych exam!! Make copies of all your records, tests, letters (to them and the denial). You WILL need them to send to the state. I was denied a year ago today and got my stuff in by the end of the month - I had a decision in SIX WEEKS!!! Be short, sweet and to the point. Show that you are assertive, not agressive or angry! If your PCP is supportive, have them write a letter showing the need! I wish you the best. HAP is your typical HMO - Hellish Meanies Organization!
