Pain to right of incision site - hard/hurts

I've already paged the surgeon and I need to go to either Holland or Ypsi to be seen tomorrow. I'm just scared. I have a spot a couple inches from my belly button where the skin is hard to the touch and it hurts to touch it. When I bent over to pick something up it was so painful that it brought tears to my eyes. I've been doing really well - no complications and I've been up and pretty active so this really caught me off guard. Any thoughts? Michele P (in the black humor section however, I just pulled on a pair of pants I haven't been able to wear for 6 months as they were too tight.)

Hi Misty - My sister is a doctor (albeit a podiatrist) and did a three year medical residency at Botsford out that direction. I hadn't bothered her because she does feet. However, Dad called her, she call me and asked a zillion questions. As she stresses, based on not having seen the skin and evaluated me in person, she thinks it's likely to be a seroma and it needs to be drained. Sounds like tomorrow will be fabulous. I can't hardly wait. Thanks for posting back. Best, Michele P

Seroma or hematoma was going to be my uneducated medical guess as well. Try to take it easy. Hopefully thats all it is and they can either drain it or you can wait it out.

Michele ~ fwiw, this happened to me too and I was scared to death. Pam R my angel thought it was a seroma and she was correct. I then saw my surgeon and Dr. Pam was so right. I was given the option of waiting to see if my body absorbs it (or sometimes it seeps out if it's under an incision) or have it asperated. I chose to wait. Hope this helps Sheryl In the Zoo
