Plavix and RNY surgery

I am on Plavix and my cardiologist is adamant about me not going off of it for a year after my stent implants (9/2005). I was wondering if anyone has had the surgery while on Plavix or will I have to wait? I am going to at least get the ball rolling on this as I see it takes a while to go through the process, I was just hoping that if I have everything done I wouldn't have to wait another 10 months.

Not sure about the Plavix, but when you choose your WLS surgeon, he will be able to tell you. Just wanted to welcome you to the Board and say hi to another "northerner"!! Hi Alan! I had to be on Plavix for a year as well, same medical condition. I hit my year in April and didn't have my surgery until July, so it wasn't an issue for me. Theresa is right, though. Go ahead and get the ball rolling, when you have your consult with your surgeon, believe me, he or she will let you know. It's a good question, Plavix is a blood thinner, so bleeding could be an issue. It'll all work out, though, even if you do have to wait, you'll be healthier for the surgery and heal better afterward. Hi Allan, Just do what you have to do. Get started. When it's time for you to have surgery, you will have everything done that need's to be done. If you have to wait a couple of extra months for your year to be over, It will be worth it. God bless you, Annette

Alan:  Did you stay on Plavix and if so how did things go.  I too am on Plavix and have been for 3 years since I suffered a massive stroke (I was a band patient)  my band slipped so now I am getting a revision to an RNY.  My hemotologist wants me to stay on it but never did talk with the surgeon.  I had gallbladder surgery on Plavix that was just 8 months after the stroke.  I suffer a condition where my body makes lots of platletts.  They are normal at this time.  I am a little worried about the who thing.
