You sounded just like me. I was so scared I almost walked out of Barix, But I did it, and havent regretted a moment since! I had my surgery on 3/15/2006 and I feel wonderful. Down 45 lbs! Take a read on my profile hun, you will see everything i went thru and what to except. Trust me, you are in wonderful hands there! I only had 1 complication and that was my fault. I was allergic to the morphine pump, and I itched my IV out of my arm. That was my only "fallback" but other than that, I guess you can say I am the poster child for this. You will be fine hun! take care and God bless K!

the death rate nationally is one in 200-Dr Schram has done over 1200 surgeries and never had a death. Nerves are a normal thing when facing any surgery. I am having surgery the 14th of june and am feeling some of the nerves, i have had abdominal surgery, so i know the pain issue, but not the eating issue, but i feel that the alternatives with the health problems are worth the risk.teri

what is the percentage of deaths on this RNY surgery.. Every surgeon has their own statistics, I believe. Mine has done over 450 surgeries and no loss of life. His statistics were supposedly 1 in 300. It varies. It could be a variety of reasons - health, etc. how many people actually have complications from the surgery.. I had some minor dumping but that's normal. you learn as you go, you learn as you grow and I had studied this surgery for nearly a decade before I took it on 100 percent. research it some more if you are that unsure, then you aren't truly ready. You need to have confidence and be secure in knowing that this IS the right thing for you. Only YOU can answer that. Life is a risk, we all take them every day when we get into our cars and go to work, etc. What you have to realize is that this is a tool to help you lose weight, be healthier and live longer, and yes, things can go wrong, and things may not go wrong. I believe every one here will tell you a different story as to what they went through. It is a difficult choice indeed, but one I guarantee I would do again in a heartbeat because it saved my life, took away my sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure, morbid obesity, and I HAVE PEOPLE CALLING ME PIXIE TWINKLES AT WORK, SKIN AND BONES AND I LOVE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The choice is yours, and the statistics are statistics. You need to scratch under the suface more and talk to people who are two-three years post op and gain understanding. Maybe post your concerns and fears on the main message board to attract a nationwide inquiry. God bless

Arlene, I feel exactly the same way. I am having surgery on June 12 and am starting to get real scared. The thing that did me in was the memorial section of this site. They list all the people who died from the surgery and there were so many! I know my surgeon has not had any deaths, but I am starting to really get scared and have seen a lot of negative stuff on the web. Sometimes I think you can read too much about it. I am sure we will be ok. Say some prayers. Mousie
