Low blood sugar lately????
Woa, I have a question. I know I never post much anymore, but I have a problem occuring all of a sudden. No problems since my surgery until now. For the past 2-3 weeks everytime I eat, about an hour or two later I get really dizzy and shakey. I know it's my blood sugar dropping so I quickly down some OJ and start feeling better. I have been fine since surgery, why all of a sudden am I having a problem? I haven't changed my eating habits. Is there anyone else out there who is having a similar problem? Today's episode was so bad, now I have had a lingering headache that I can't seem to get rid of. Any suggestions out there? Thanks in advance everyone.

Kristy,
This happened to me the farther out I was. Not sure why. I was told to make sure I put something in my mouth every two hours. I sometimes forget and will feel dizzy and shakey. It gets so bad that I know I have to eat but I can't make a decision and want to cry. I make myself put something in my mouth and eat and I will feel better. I have had a couple of episodes where I just couldn't bring it back up and finally ate a small piece and regular candy and it leveled out. I know from my sister (who has had this problem all her life) that there really isn't anything they can do. We need to control by diet. I try to make sure I have protien snacks with all the time. I keep protien bars and nuts in the car and stuff at work. Take care, Fran
I have the same problem. I had it before my surgery but not that bad. It seems that the last year it has gotten worse. I see my family doctor next week and will be having some test run. I can not go anywhere without some type of nutrition with me. You are not alone but you do need to go see a doctor.

Kristy,
The same thing has been happening to me since December. I actually have gone as far as testing my blood sugar to see what it is... most mornings it stays at about 40 never higher than 60. I found that there were times after I had eaten, even if it was fish and a salad that my blood sugar would drop to below 40 and not come back up until I ate some fruit or in the worse case I would actully have to eat sugar!!! My doc suggested I add some fruit to my salads, like one or two strawberries, maybe a couple of segments of orange.
It makes me ill, gives me the shakes, I throw up, and yeah I have kept headaches for hours afterward, the sweats are the worst. I keep nuts at my bedside, in my car, and in my desk at work, a few nuts will help most times. For some reason my doc suggested peanuts or peanut butter, I guess they metobolize quicker into the system.
Just yesterday I realized I had not eaten like I should and had a terrible reaction, a few cashews later and I started to come out of it.
Good Luck to you,
Jill
I have had some of the same problems. I emailed my surgeon to ask about this and never got a response.
Another Doc (PA) that I have worked with said he really felt that my sugar levels were taking a nose dive. Once I almost passed out at work, and although my sugar was below 100 even after I had eaten, it really wasn't terrifically low.
I wish I had a few more answers on this also. I am about 2.5 years out. I've had other things that I also wish I could get answers on but it doesn't seem to happen just yet anyway.
Take care and God Bless.
Beth
