Hi Everyone, I had my medical clearance today and was cleared for surgery..now hopefully a date when I see Dr. Carlin on June 2nd! I was wondering if anybody out there was not having their menstral cycle prior to WLS, but that had it return after they lost the weight?? I haven't had one in a couple years. My PCP (which you know of you have followed any of my posts was not good) had told me that it was due to my birth control pills and not to worry about it..just be thankful they are gone. Well, today the Dr. told me that my pills weren't strong enough to have caused that and that it's not healthy..that we need 1 or 2 cycles a year to keep the uterus wall thin or else you can get cancer. She said that it could be caused by my weight and that after I have surgery, if I stil haven't had one after 2 - 3 months for me to see an OBGYN. Just wondered if anybody else has had experience with this type of thing.. Thanks.. Kim

Kim I have never been regular since i have had a weight issue. My problem is just the opposite of yours though, i have 3-4 cycles in a 60 day time frame. When i was on the pill they were regular though. My GYN told me that fat produces estrogen and that when hormone levels are off that will play a huge part in being regular. Below is some info that i found on webmd.com. Hope this helps. other causes of missed or irregular periods include: Excessive weight loss or gain. Although low body weight is a common cause of missed or irregular periods, obesity also can cause menstrual problems.

I didn't really give a thought to this, as I have not had a peroid in over 10 years. This is due to the fact I take shots of Depro Vera for my endrometrosis. Funny thing, tho - when I went in for my PAP and my shot, they had to give me a lower dose of medication, since I had lost so much weight!!

You know what for years i didn't have a regular period i would come on one month and wouldn't have another one for about 6 months later. I was told i had pcos but was never confirmed with the needed testing. I am 377 pounds and for the last 8 years my period has been coming every 28 days like clock work. I am married so i don't have any form of birth control. But i haven't gotten pregnant. You know i am afraid of i think that after i have the surgery and get my tummy tuck.... My body will decided to get pregnant. I would prefer getting pregnant while i am fat. Because i don't want to mess up my new body. Is that crazy or what?

Kim , my periods have NEVER been regular. I am almost 7 weeks out and I'll be gosh darned if my cycle isn't EXACTLY 28 days! I started 2 weeks after surgery and then 28 days later. I am down 45lbs and truely feel that has made a big difference in my becoming "regular"-it has only been 1 full cycle so time will really tell, but so far so good. Good Luck! Jennifer
