Long Term Results
Hello Everyone,
As you know I am having surgery on June 12 (I announce it everytime I post lol). All of the research I have done discusses people who are, at most, a few years out and doing well. I have had trouble finding people who are long term out, like 5 or more years and still keeping the weight off. Is there anyone on here or do you know anyone who has been out that long and is doing well? Does this mean that these people have all gained the weight back and that is why they don't post anymore. My biggest downfall with dieting is the weight regain. I don't want to have the surgery and then regain the weight back after all my hard work and going through such a big operation. I just read Carnie Wilson's two books which state she is keeping the weight off and feeling great, but then I heard she was just on a talk show discussing how she has regained all the weight since. I also know of two people who have had it, regained all the weight PLUS some. Do you think this is the norm and the only people I'm hearing from are those who are only a few years out and that is why it is all good news? Just wondering.

I just read an article about Carnie, I think it was in People magazine. She did gain some of her weight back but she was also preganat. Her daughter is about a year old and I think the article said that she is about 190lbs, still looked good and nothing like she looked before she had WLS.
Go look at anniversaries, you will find people who are further out then a few years. Maybe they might be able to answer some of your questions.

Sorry I haven't read your profile yet so I do not know WHICH of the WLS procedures you are having.
Just 6 months ago I had the Duedonal Switch so I am biased towards it and most people I know have also had this procedure. The reason I chose it was becasue I know at least 5 people who are more than 8 years post-op and never regained and still look great. Also I did not want to have to deal with "dumping" that many who have had the RYN-Y have.
Whichever procedure you have though, please know it is still just a tool. It takes dedication and a life long commitment to better eating & exercise in order to obtain the maximum results. None of us are perfect but with the aid of this tool it is easier to drop in the beginning but for the long haul it does require work on our part too. That's scary as we all want a magic wand to fix it (if we are really 100% honest that is) but that is not the case. Still we have a much higher success rate with the surgery than without it.
Good luck
