Burnin' down the house!

Hi All, I have a question. My surgeon required that you stop smoking 30 days prior to surgery or he won't operate. So, I was all set to quit tomorrow thinking that was 30 days. But, to my horror, it is only 29!!! Is this that big of a deal? Do you think he can tell if I am a day off? Do you think he will postpone my surgery for that? How can he tell how many days I haven't smoked for? I quit for 3 years and started back up like 6 months ago. How stupid is that??? My husband and I both used to smoke and we both quit together. Then one day we just felt like having one, so we each bought a pack to keep in the freezer for "just once in a blue moon". Well, he had one and got sick and threw his pack out. Here I am six months later still smoking. Oh boy, me and my addictive personality. Anyway, i am rambling now. I just wanted to know if you think Dr. Wood will be able to tell if I'm off a day. Thanks, Mousie

No, I'd say just stop now. One day isn't going to do anything, in my opinion. Best of luck! Theresa

Yes, there is a blood test they can run....naw, Im just kidding. Just throw those things in the garbage, girl! You don't need em! I quit smoking 18 years ago. Damn how I wish dieting were as easy as giving up smokes.

Just stepping in with my 2 cents being a RT and former smoker. When listening to lung sounds you can tell if someone is a long term smoker or not, not how long ago they last smoked. I smoked for 10 years until my surgery in March. I quit roughly a month pre op but go the pre op jitters a few days before and had one each day up until my surgery (not saying you should do this). No one accused me of smoking or even questioned it. However, i have not smoked since the morning of the day before my surgery and having dropped 40 pounds now I can really breathe and do things and not get short of breath. This surgery for me was killing 2 birds with one stone, I'm dropping the weight, and i quit smoking. I suggest you listen to your surgeons warning, and quit now and get that head start. Best of luck and see you on the losing side

Mousie, Nice to see a picture with your name. As for the smoking, I would still stop today. One of the preop tests they do for Harper is a nicotine test. I'm not sure how Dr. Wood uses it. I had it done and have never smoked. Jeanne

Hi, this is the first post I have done. I just wanted to tell you I also had to quit smoking. I had to go for a urine test 2 weeks after I quit & it came back clear. No nicotine! So I wouldn't worry too much. good luck!
