Wanda at Dr. Genaw's/Carlin's office. I want to ask her about BCN and whether or not they take it. I just got a weird response from Terry at Dr. Bacal's office stating that beginning July 1, 2006, the only hospital in Michigan taking BCN is Mercy Hospital in Muskegon? That can't be right. Her email didn't specify if it was just for bariatric coverage or what, but it still can't be right.

I do not think that is accurate as I have BCN and they will accpet it at William Beaumont Royal Oak. I can call and find out if this is true or not in the morning and let you know. Have a great night and good luck on your quest for WLS! Licia

Thanks Licia. One other question, did BCN let you do all your required preop stuff prior to having surgery approval? Did I read your profile right? HAP wouldn't even approve anything until you got an approval for surgery. At least you have had a consult, I have never even had that. Good luck on your appeal. Let me know what happens.

Hi Colleen: Yes, I had all of my pre-op stuff done prior to me sending in the request. You have to have that done for BCN and from what I understand BCBS as well. I went through Dr. Chengelis at WB Royal Oak, he use to work with Dr. Kruse who is out of the weight loss clinic @ Beaumont, I did not want to go through the hoops so to speak with going there and paying them $750.00 for maintenance when I can pay $200.00 through the same clinic just for life-time nutritionist visits. I read that you were looking into BCN, they so far with the exception of the denial (my doctor did not send his notes) they have approved everything else and the diagnosis code was morbid obesity and pre-WLS appointments. When you get BCN, you should give Dr. Chengelis a call he is VERY VERY nice and truly cares for his patients. If you already have a 12 month diet history and your PCP is behind you 100%, you should have no problems getting approval from BCN. I will let you know what happens with the appeal I am really hoping to have this done soon, I have alot on my plate right now and this obstacle is one hurdle I want to jump soon.
