Topic: JetMedical Tourism/Dr. Jorge Reyes Mendiola

Hello! I am scheduled to have VSG performed at the INT Hospital in Tijuana on July 22,2019 by Dr. Jorge Reyes Mendiola. I am so nervous about the procedure and was hoping someone else here has had the same procedure performed by the same Dr or even went through Jet Medical to schedule a surgery? Any and all advice and comments welcome.

Topic: OCC question

looking at OCC for VSG. my red flag is visiting hours ending at 4pm and no family allowed to stay overnight with you in hospital / clinic. it's odd.

anyone who had surgery at OCC have issue with this?

i also read some people state that the payment was sketchy in that credit cards aren't taken and wanting cashier checks? is this the case?

ortiz is board certified and clinic is joint commission compliant. strict visiting hours are odd though.

lots of + reviews for dr. illan... i can find info on the facility and it doesn't seem he's board certified bariatric surgeon.

thanks in advance for any info-

Topic: RE: Surgery Scheduled 08/08 - Anyone had Bypass from AloBariactrics - Dr. Alejandro Lopez?

HI,

I am a nurse doing research on surgeons and surgeries and wanted to reply since no one else has so far. I have not seen a lot on Dr Lopez, but everything was positive. As far as the reflux, I have that also. All clinical studies say the bypass is not as likely to cause reflux as the sleeve will. Bypass is also not as likely to make reflux worse. That being said reflux is often a result of diet, not always but often. Studies do show to improve reflux, more sleeve patients have to alter diet within the years after surgery where bypass balances out with or without diet changes.

All bariatric surgeries may have reflux problems that can resolve the first two years, so do not be alarmed right away.

Sorry not much help,

Good luck,

Tracy

Hello all,

I just scheduled my surgery with Dr. Lopez. Because I have bad acid reflux he recommends Bypass instead of the sleeve. Does anyone have any information on Dr. Lopez or his recommendation?

Thanks for any input...

Topic: RE: Trouble with surgery in Mexico

Southernlady33...

What you are claiming is entirely untrue. Have you been to Mexico for surgery? If not, you should probably say nothing about what you don't know. Do you even know anyone who has gone to Mexico. Yes, there are those horror stories out there but don't you realize we have those stories right here in the US also. We do have different regulations but what we don't understand about Mexico is they have been doing these surgeries even before us, because they aren't regulated like us so they started this way before us. They have double the amount of surgeries under their belts than US Drs. do. There are some things to watch out for as you would watch here when looking for a Surgery. Most important are statistics. Many of the Mexican Drs. have taught many of our US Drs. It is true that when you go to Mexico and aren't planning on staying for the after care you could have an issue on finding a Bariatric Surgeon here that wants to treat someone else's surgery. But saying that you can't find a doctor to do so, is false, and most times if that should happen and it can and does with Mexican, America, English, European drs. you will most likely be covered at that point by your own insurance that won't cover weight loss surgery here.

I know many people probably (10) who have been to Mexico in every case they had great experiences and outcomes, also they often claim it was like a day spa atmosphere, clean, orderly, friendly and many of those have great and long associations with their Surgeons and staff way beyond the warranty period of their surgeries. I'm not sure you understand that you do have a warranty with your surgery in Mexico just like in the states. But most people leave and don't return so it's kind of hard for a Surgeon to fix what they can't fix if your not there for them to do so. Surgery is a gamble, there are % chances of problems. Mexico gets a bad wrap and I'm seriously sick of it. There are those low rent places that will seriously try to do surgery on anyone for anything in other countries but for the most part these WL Clinics are on the up and up and have excellent follow up and post op care, that is if you stay for it, it is critical. So if you want that you should stay day there for 30 days post surgery, end of story.

Topic: RE: Any Info on Dr Osuna in Tijuana?

I believe she is the Wife of Dr. Alejandro Lopez who is with ALO Bariatrics. For some reason I thought Dr. Osuna practiced in Puerto Vallarta, I may be wrong. But seems like I read that.

Was the bypass surgery experience about the same as your sleeve surgery? Have you had positive results since the revision?
