So a group of 11 people ( in my small town) ( all at different times within a year) went to Mexico to have WLS. 2 have gone back to have more cosmetic surgery done as well....after the fact. They all used the same surgeon, Dr. Almanza..all speak of their great experience.....some of the things they talk about have also been talked about on this forum ( as far as the reviews, facility , staff ect) ect. Some of these gals work in healthcare. But honestly from what I read on these forums and online...he has the worst reviews. I want to book my surgery...mostly because I see the results they have had.....and since I have first hand knowledge-> I think I should trust these people? But I am actually thinking of going to a different facility. I am thinking Any of the 3 Doctors at the Mexico Bariatric center would be good. So Should I trust first hand accounts? Or go with my gut instincts and trust all of the reviews and information on this site?
Do any of you have a personal Experience with Dr Valenzuela? Dr. Cabrera? Or Dr. De Leon?
Or do any of you actually have a good experience with Dr. Almanza?
It's all the same price roughly.....I just don't want to choose the wrong Dr. ( like anyone would want to do that)
Thanks in advance for your input.
Hi Sbduvall,
I had my gastric sleeve with Dr. Maytorena in Mexicali back in June. I am still in contact with his staff since he has done a couple of my friends' sleeves as well. He is now in Tijuana with a different group, and I heard his revision prices are very low.
Good luck!

Gastric Sleeve
Hey guys:
I had my lap band done 10 years ago and had pain from day one no matter how little I ate. About 2 years the tube popped off and I lost all restriction. So I am looking to have a sleeve instead. This is where you all come in.
I noticed a lot of people talking about DR. Kelly?. Can anyone tell me their experience with him or really any other doctor if you had a conversion? I am looking for info on the docs but also on the conversion process with your doctor. Thanks!!
I understand completely and wish you luck on your weight loss journey. Which doctor are you using in Mexico?
Thank you for your response. I used to fly all of the time before becoming so large. I have avoided it for the last 8 years for this exact reason. Thankfully, I can afford to go first class for this trip but it's a sacrifice I'm making for myself since I'm having to travel alone. I just really don't want to be embarrassed or uncomfortable, especially on such a long flight back, after the surgery.
I was at a BMI of 46 and flew yearly. I also flew to San Diego for my surgery in Tijuana. My advice would be to buy 2 seats, if you can afford it and sit in the aisle seat. If you can afford first class, that would be even better. I could never afford these things and always had to squeeze in next to my husband. He of course, didn't mind.
