Topic: Did You Know? You can create your own private OH group.

OH Groups provide a way for our members to interact, share, obtain information and education, and support each other. OH Groups include members that have had various surgical procedures, have many interests, experiences and a desire to receive and give support.

After you have created the group, you and your moderators of the group can invite people to the group yourself, send them a PM invitation and put a blurb with the link to your OH group in your signature line.  You will see some members have created their signature line with a brief blurb about their group and the link to join.

Topic: RE: Re-sleeve Dr.s in Mexico

Hi there! I just got back from being re-sleeved. I was originally booked in for the revision to DS however I just didn't feel that it was right for me. I know its a great surgery - but not for me. I talked to Mexicali Baratric Center and paid 500. I knew when I went down that unless it is enlarged they can't resleeve. I knew if it was meant to be it would be. Dr. Campos performed a Barium Swallow on the day prior to surgery and found a couple enlargements. He advised me that my sleeve was quite long and I would benefit from the DS. I told him that I didn't want that, he listened said he understood and never pushed further. I had my re-sleeve the next day by Drs. Ungston, Campos and Beltran, they tightened my original sleeve and removed the excess done by Dr. Aceves and am recovering very well. This was not Dr. Aceves fault at all, just to make that known. Time will tell how this procedure worked, however the experience was amazing. I was able to have the sleeve done for 7450 plus the 500 deposit. Let me know if you have any questions!

Topic: RE: Who is board certified n what does it mean if they are not?

I guess no one knows, so I'll take a stab. Board Certified is a way to say that a surgeon has met some kind of criteria or qualifications. It's like having a medical license but beyond that. I think you have to take exams, "boards" and pass them to become board certified. I would never recommend someone visit a doctor who is not board certified but to be honest, I didn't even go to the board websites and check my surgeon so I could have been fooled.

The "surgeon of excellence" thing is (in theory) a designation that is based on numerous factors like the surgeon's experience level, complication rate, number of surgeries performed, quality of their facilities, etc. They have to meet a high standard for all these things and even have a site-inspection to be deemed a surgeon of excellence, or alternately, the entire practice can be called a surgical center of excellence.

Now, there are probably some less legit designations that others. There are probably some that all a surgeon has to do is pay a large fee and he'll get a stamp of approval. But in the USA if you go to a "bariatric center of surgical excellence" (there are usually only a couple per state) you can be sure they have met some strict criteria. And I'm sure internationally this exists too.

Hope this helps... I'd definitely check into it more if you have doubts about the accreditation of your surgeon.

To be honest, I am not fond of the heat either, but I will just have to try to stay out of the sun and deal with it.

Congratulations! The only thing you might not like in August is the heat! I was so glad to get it done in March and not have to deal with the heat. I mean, the hospital is air  conditioned of course but even just walking in and out to the van... I'm a real wuss when it comes to heat and humidity.

So glad to hear that you are back and everything has gone well for you. I just received my approval email from Susan and am planning to have my sleeve done in August with Dr. Alvarez.  I am so excited to begin this journey.
