I would stay away from Dr. Mario Almanza. He has had MANY lawsuits filed against him, including a class action lawsuit. There are just too many reports of complications and negative experiences across various Bariatric forums to ignore with this clinician.

I also encourage you to NOT use cost as your #1 criteria for selecting a self-pay bariatric surgeon. You want someone that is highly skilled/educated/experienced, does not run an assembly line operation, operates out of a safe & clean hospital, is up-to-date on the latest techniques, selects the right procedure for your anatomy, and provides the best results for long term weight loss and maintenance. There are many reputable doctors and hospitals in MX but this doctor is not one of them.

I and many others recommend Dr. Esquerra at Mexicali Bariatric Center.

Has anyone had surgery with Dr Almanza? I'm considering using this doctor, his price are more reasonable.

What is a mini sleeve

Huh? Not sure where your question came from as the OP did not mention "mini sleeve" and that's not a term I've heard before.

Hello,

I had the gastric sleeve about 7years ago according to this website. I've gained just about all of my weight back due to an on the job injury which resulted in me being bed ridden. I all suffered from major depression and so many medications changes to find the best one for me. I gained over 70lbs due to these life changes.

I've tried everything that I know to turn this situation around. I'm considering having a 2nd Gastric Sleeve in Mexico (only because I can't find anyone in MI) or the Gastric Bypass. I'm asking for help and advise on both procedures and also seeking doctors in Mexico that are high on the list of great satisfaction.

You get what you pay for. I had MGB surgery in Tijuana and now need to be revised to RNY due to bile reflux. In retrospect, I wish my original bariatric surgery had been performed by Mexicali Bariatric Center; they're top notch. My revision surgery will most likely be performed in the U.S. because my insurance may cover it and yet they didn't cover my original surgery; go figure. But if there are any final insurance coverage hiccups I will go to MBC for revision surgery.

Topic: RE: Mini Gastric Bypass Options in Mexico

I had Mini Gastric Bypass surgery in Tijuana in April 2017. It went well; I lost all of my excess weight and my acid reflux resolved, BUT I developed bile reflux 8 months post-op. This does not happen to everyone; however, due to this complication, I am in the process of getting my MGB revised to RNY in the U.S. in the very near future. YMMV
