Topic: Recent experiences with Dr. Illan

After reading reviews I contacted Dr. Illan's office but am now unsure I can't seem to find any recent reviews. Also, I requested to join their FB page and no body has accepted me yet.  This makes me a little wary.  Can anyone share their experiences with Dr. Illan or their recent experience or input on another doctor in Tijuana for VSG? Thank you!

I just returned from Mexico, you've got to have a passport, especially returning to the US. You can expedite your passport.

Topic: Interest in Mexicali Bariatric Center! Id love to meet someone who got a VSG there!

Hello everyone! I am very interested in getting a VSG in Mexico. Specifically, I have come across glowing reviews about Mexicali Bariatric Center. If anyone has gotten any WLS there, please comment! I'd love to chat with you. I'm a medical student in Kentucky and have a few questions about your experience. Thanks!

Topic: RE: Doctor to choose in Tijuana ?

Hi,

I am traveling in Europe these days and prefer not to use my phone much. Do you mind chatting here? I might not respond right away but I do come here once in a while for sure. Regarding Dr.Zavalza I couldn`t have been happier with his team and my overall experience. And what I like the most is that I can reach him practically any time (Facebook is the best way of communication with him or with Dr.Luna). Let me know what your concerns are, I will gladly share my experience. Irene was my coordinator, you can email her at [email protected] she is very good at answering all kinds of questions, I was probably driving her nuts LOL I had a lot of things to clarify before coming to Mexico. My family was super worried for me.

I agree with Hollykim.  It's important to have a meeting with your primary care physician at home before you plan surgery in MX to make sure he/she is on board and will follow you when you return home after surgery with periodic blood work etc to ensure you're getting all your nutritional needs.  Build up your care team so you are in the best position to stay well and reach your goals post op.  Good luck!

Chicken granules.  They mix with water to create broth as you can't carry on liquid and it is difficult if not impossible to find broth at the airport behind security.  Good luck!

Topic: RE: Revision in Mexcio

I never had the band, but had the sleeve surgery with Dr. Garcia in October of last year.  I am a little over 8 months out and doing great.  I didn't have any complications other than the normal sleeve issues like constipation, dehydration (at first) and nausea from overeating.  My scars are very minimal.  Although I have not heard from Dr. Garcia's team after the surgery, I do recommend him as it appears he has done a great job on mine.

Topic: RE: What are the risk of not performed bariatric surgery in a hospital?

I had surgery at a small hospital in Tijuana as well and I understand your fears completely.  They are probably not as technologically sophisticated as hospitals in the US, however, their doctors are trained well and I had a good experience.  After care has been performed by my PCP and endocrinologist, so no worries there.  I would not have been able to afford self-pay in the US, so my two options were to not have the surgery or have it in Mexico.  I don't regret my decision for a minute.
