Sorry for the delay in responding...I missed your post somehow.

My trip was easy peasey.  I arrived at the border, my coordinator picked me up, went and had labs done, arrived at the surgery center, had my surgery and went home 2 days later.  I returned to work within a week and have had no issues to date.  My recovery went really smooth and my results have been great.  HW 263 SW 244 CW 182 and I am almost 4 months post-op.

Hi and I am sorry about your complication with your band.  While I did not have revision done, I know someone who did and she has had great results.  My VSG surgeon is the one who did it.  His name is Dr. Jorge Maytorena and he is probably one of the best surgeons out there in my opinion.  His prices can't be beat, the care is the highest and his bedside manner is better than that.

Long Term VSG is the one who facilitates his surgeries and you can find their website here....http://longtermvsg.com/.

Good luck on your journey.

Topic: Does anyone have any information on best revision doctors in Mexico

I was banded in 2006 and suffered the typical symptoms for a long time (5+ years) before they resided.  I recently went back in this spring to have it checked because I felt NO restriction at all anymore.. which was weird for me even though it has been 10 years.  I had kept my weightloss off for several years and this spring I gained 45 pounds rapidly. Come to find out the tubing is kinked inside and it is pretty much useless now without surgery.

Has anybody had revision surgery in Mexico and which doctor do your recommend?  Also, does anyone have any info on complications with this surgery revision?

Thank you in advance for any info.  I never thought I would be dealing with this all again ten years later :(

Topic: RE: VGS may 22 with ALM.

Hi janesmith2, thanks for your well wishes. Everything went well with my surgery and I am feeling great. I'll give u a quick overview of the process. I arrived on Friday the 19th and I was picked up from the airport along with another patient. We were brought to the mi hospital where we had pre op testing. We then went to the hotel where we relaxed for the rest of the night.

The next morning the driver took us to the hospital where we were brought to our rooms and prepared for surgery. There were 7 of us total who had surgery that day, 5 of us who had vsg. I didn't see the other 2 patients much, but the 5 of us who had vsg got to know each other. I was the first of the vsg patients to go. I remember going to the surgical room and the doctor talking to me. Next thing I know I was waking up in the recovery room. The night of surgery I didn't have much pain but I had a lot of gas that was uncomfortable. I walked a ton and slept in-between. The next day I felt better but still had gas. I continued to walk and hang out with the other patients. The following morning(Monday) we had our drains and Iv removed and were taken back to the hotel. That afternoon our group, along with the group that was sleeved the day before went shopping and toured around TJ it was fun and we were able to eat delicious homemade ice cream and taco broth. We all felt good and had a great time. I felt pretty much back to normal.

Tuesday was a free day where we hung out at the hotel  and walked to different places on the blvd. Wednesday we went to the airport and went home. The entire time we were at the hotel nurses would come check on us a couple times a day. All in all it was a great experience and I would recommend going through ALM. I have been feeling great since surgery and went back to work right away. My incisions have healed great and look good and I have been pretty successful with getting in my protein and liquid each day.

Sorry this was so long. I hope it helps! Let me know if you have any questions. You will do great and be on the losing side soon. Good luck!

Thanks, I wouldn't have thought to try and approve the surgery in Mexico through my insurance ahead of time.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks so much for the info. My husband and I decided to go through the insurance process first and have it done in the U.S. I was really pushing for Mexico, but I can appreciate why it makes sense to try and have it here. I have my initial consult next Tuesday, and I will have to complete a six month supervised diet. So, let the waiting game begin. In the meantime, I'm trying to get as healthy as possible.  I'm 5'6" and 297lbs. so I have some room for weight loss beforehand.

Thanks again.
