Where are you at with this?
I had a VSG with Dr. Aceves in Sept. 2011, and a revision on August 6th this year with Dr. Ungson. Both very positive experiences. No complications with either.
I had surgery in Mexico, Aug. 6, 2015 by Dr Ungson. I think I had the best surgery & care I could have asked for. I didn't tell any of my family except for my children & husband, whom I live with. I did tell friends afterwards & they were ok with it which surprised me but I knew my family would have flipped out so I didn't tell them. I also don't live near them so it has been easy to keep it from them.
I'm having trouble finding a Bariatric surgeon that will do any post op care with me. Did anyone else have trouble finding a Bariatric surgeon to do post op?
Any suggestions? I live in York, Pa.
Very informative article. Thank you !
Dr Alvarez has an excellent reputation. I wanted an FACS surgeon at a JCI Accredited Hospital /Bariatric Center of Excellence.
I considered Dr Jose Rodriguez, Dr Jaime Kelley and Dr Juan Corvala at Hospital Angeles.
I chose Dr Corvala, the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Hospital Angeles, spent 5 days there and 2 at Hotel Lucerne.
Top notch experience.
Good luck!
Well I decided to narrow down my options by requiring a surgeon to be FACS and a Level One Bariatric Hospital equipped for multiple potential complications. I also wanted a hospital with JCI accreditation.
Since Dr Corvala is it the Director of Bariatrics, is FACS and is in charge of a Bariatric fellowship program, I chose him. I also seriously considered Dr Kelley. I had an excellent experience at Hospital Angeles with him. I spent 5 days/4 bites at the hospital and 2 at Hotel Lucerne. I met with a nutritionist, psychologist, Bariatric residents and saw Dr Corvala 1-2 times per day at the hospital. Very nice humble surgeon. Hospital was on par with fine medium sized modern U.S. hospitals.
i am sure I Would have had a fine experience with several of the other surgeons discussed in this thread. Dr Corvala trained many of them at his Fellowship.
My BMI pre op May 2015 was about 33 and now is 26.9.
I check in periodically with the nutritionist when I have a question. Other than a bad cold, my post op experience has been uneventful. I have been following the diet prescribed and doing moderate aerobic and resistance training with a trainer at a gym.
Think I may be headed back to TJ for plastic surgery in 1-2 years to remove the excess abdomen and chest skin. I am hoping some of this skin will resolve in time but will find out soon. Fortunately, there are 3 plastic surgeons at Hospital Angeles who have an excellent reputation. Thanks to all for your assistance in providing info and support!
Both have great reputations. You can't go wrong with either. Best of luck.
Hospital Angeles is the premier hospital in Tijuana. It is chosen by the US Consulate.
It is a full service modern facility with a blood bank, 24/7 ER and an active ICU. The have MRI, CT scan, interventional cardiologists and was an excellent experience. I had surgery in May with Dr. Juan Lopez Corvala. Many of the Mexican bariatric surgeons trained at the Hosp Angeles Bariatric Fellowship under his direction.
No regrets and reminded me of a modern medium sized US hospital.
I contacted A Lighter Me when I was trying to decide on a doctor and found them to be quite pushy. I felt like they just wanted my money and were pushing me to go with them and book right away. I just didn't feel right going with them although I know many people have and they have had great experiences. After a lot of research and contacting several doctors/companies I went with Dr. Alejandro Lopez. He and his staff were amazing and I have no regrets whatsoever. Good luck!
I have contacted Dr. Alverez and now waiting on reply. I do think he is the best fit! Ty for recommendations!

Thank you :) and that's exactly why I did it too...... Been heavy all my life and tried everything without sustained success. And all I want is to be healthy. I really don't care about a certain number on the scale, I just want to be happy and healthy.
