Yes, you are correct that he will not be able to lift anything, so you are on the right track with wanting to pack lightly. My doctor told me nothing above 10 lbs for a month. And yes, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my sleeve. I don't think your husband will be disappointed. The first month after surgery is not a picnic though and neither is the pre-op diet, but if he can get through those things, he will have it made. People have sudden food intolerance in the first month. Mine was eggs and dairy. I loved both before and love them both now, but could not eat them for about 2 months after surgery as they made me throw up or nauseous. Also, tell him to sip, sip, sip and sip some more. It is easy to get dehydrated in the first month because getting your liquids in is hard, so you basically need to keep a water bottle buy you at all times. Let me know if you have any other questions as I am happy to help. I live on the east coast too--Virginia.
I would like to know about her too. She seems excellent and I spoke to her regarding procedure recommendations.
Only real concern is having a very long procedure in a surgical center in Mexico. In the US, if something goes wrong, you are immediately transfered to a. hospital. It may not be as smooth a transfer in MX for a variety of reasons. My rationale had me have the gastric sleeve at Hospital Angeles in TJ.
I asked Dr Cardenas about such emergencies and she said that she would use a nearbt hospital if a serious complication occurred however this has not happened yet.
Any additional thoughts about her? Thx
Thanks for that post I will definitely keep that in mind about aftercare for sure. I will also look into that doctor as well because he was not yet on my list but he could also be a option for me to look into thanks.
Thanks for that post it does help a lot I like the fact that you talk about the pain because that is definite fear for me.I probably watch to much youtube videos, but I also get a lot of info with the youtube videos the procedures are very interesting to me. I like to know what they will be doing to me if I decide this is the best for me. It is hell being 237 and not being able to play with my kids in the playground. That is why I'm really looking into this. For me it is heartbreaking when my kids want me to play ball or jump up and down with them I just cant do. I do not want to miss the best years of their life because of my weight when I know that their are a lot of different things I could do to help myself.
I was wondering if you could possibly share some info with me in regards to your revision. How long ago did you have your sleeve done? Did you lose and regain or just resistant to losing weight?
I'm considering doingthe same thing.
I was there way back in 2012. Nice hospital, great staff and super clean! Goggle the hospital and you will be able to see it on U tube. Good luck! Linda
Thank you!!
My husband chose the sleeve. I am very excited for him.
I really appreciate the information. I know he won't be able to carry the luggage - so I do not want to try and have too much with us since we live on the east coast it is going to be a looooong day for him.
Are you loving your sleeve???
I had surgery with Dr. Fernando Garcia. While you should definitely find someone in the states willing to provide after care for someone that had surgery in Mexico if you were to choose Dr. Garcia, I would definitely recommend him. My scarring is minimal and I'm 107lbs lighter since last year when I had the surgery (10/6/14 was my surgery date). All in all I think he did an excellent job for the price I paid.
I had surgery there on October 6, 2014, so it has been a year, but I didn't need to bring a pillow or blanket. I brought a towel, but only because I don't like to use hotel towels and I am funny about it. The hospital is not the newest in the world but very clean and nice. The rooms are large, so there is plenty of room for the both of you. Which WLS did he choose? I had the sleeve. Good luck to your husband!
