Topic: Sleeve scheduled in December - How did you all verify?

I am struggling with my decision. Baiatric surgery is not covered by my insurance. I know and have spoken with someone who had her surgery with Dr. Elias Ortiz and A Lighter Me. She had nothing but positive things to say. I scheduled my surgery and then started my research.

I would like to be able to verify that Mi Doctor Hospital has whatever licenses might be required by Mexico. I know the hospital is not JCI accredited but what about Mexico CSG Accreditation (voluntary) or SiNaCEA .

I have also checked into Dr. Elias Ortiz. One site states that he is accredited by the American College of surgeons, but when I search for him on the American College of Surgeons site; I can't find him.

I am a planner and researcher by nature. I like to know every bit of information possible. The lack of information is worrisome. How did you all work past the unknowns?

Dr G was great - very good bedside manner. Excellent English. The hospital is to be honest scary on the outside but very very clean and modern on the bariatric floor. There are five others here that had the sleeve with various doctors.  There is free WiFi and a phone but I have my cell so I honestly do not know if it works to call the US.

the people here are very nice

good luck to you!

Topic: RE: I am interested in finding a SAFE doctor

Thanks you for all the detail. I will be having revision there with Dr. Valasquez next week. Do they give you pain pills for afterwards ? I have  very long planes rides home and layovers in airports. I am worried about pain. I usually don't take pain meds but this worries me. If there is wifi, will I be able to watch Netflix on an iPad?

Topic: RE: Are you judged because you decided to go to Mexico for surgery?

I have only told a few people and they seem alarmed. It feels pretty dismal to go without any support or backup. I researched quite carefully. I hope, over time, they will accept it.

Topic: RE: Question about Florence Hospital in Tijuana - where you there?

I will be having revision next week at Florence Hospital. Thank you for sharing your story. I will be alone and wonder if I will be bored for 2 days in bed? Is there anything to do?

What do you think about Dr. Gonzalez? I am scheduled for the Gastric sleeve with him on Monday.

how are the facilities at the Florence Hospital? Are there phones to make calls to the US?
