I didn't go with Dr. Valenzuela... I've hear good things about him but even better from my guy ;) I'm sure you'll be alright! Top Mexican doctors (stay away from obvious goofs, not just there but everywhere) are superbly trained and their facilities are top notch. You must not worry!
My doctor doesn't do revisions, but the other head bariatric surgeon does. Just for you (and other interested patients) to know.

Hi, Josh
I don't know if my guy is the very best, but he's certainly very good. You probably want to check it out. He is now the surgeon at Dr. Alberto Aceves' (he passed away last year) surgery center in northern Mexico. They're super pro people.

I just had my surgery a couple of weeks ago or so. Everything went amazing. The price, for starters, was obviously way lower, and both the facilities and the quality of the care were as good as it can get. I still wonder how people don't take these chances with our neighbors down south. FYI, I'm a third generation American citizen with no known family attachments down there, so going to Mexico may be (in principle) very similar to any other American.
I'm pretty sure I am going with this Dr, aiming for Surgery late January.
Was wondering if anyone had any advice/ has seen this Dr before, and in general what to expect from surgery in Mexico. I've heard good things from the people I talked to here about positive experiences in Mexico, but it's good to feel assured where I can get it! Haha
Have you heard good things about people going to Mexico?
Unfortunately, I did not use this particular doctor nor did I have a revision, however, I did do my sleeve surgery in Mexico and I am doing great. I am 14 months out, 114 lbs down and looking forward to making it to goal. Good luck to you!
I am having surgery Jan 13th with Dr. Valenzuela in Tijuana. I am a nurse and am worrying about everything that can go wrong. I had a gastric band removed 3 months ago so I am a revision thus a higher risk for complications. Can anyone talk to me who has either been to Dr. V or had a revision by someone else? Please.....
So after some negotiation, begging, bartering with the wife I have her like 90% convinced to let me move forward with the surgery. One of her contingencies was getting my affairs in order in case something was to happen (not just during surgery) so im getting a will and upping my Life insurance before moving forward. Anybody else go through this before surgery?
I think after some consideration and prices I am looking at going through a lighter me. I like the idea of a place in the united states being slightly responsible in some way if something happens (like issues with the logistics not just the surgery).
Thanks for the replies and hopefully i will be coming back with a surgery date sometime soon.
As far as I knew I had to book through alm to have Dr Ortiz do my surgery.
If I could do it another way though I probably wouldn't. It was nice to have a team of people supporting me for this. I had airport pickup and drop off....hotels were also included...plus I can get in contact with staff any time I need to with any questions I have.
That made a big difference to me...honestly I still can't believe I had a surgery in mexico - it's not something I ever thought I'd do! But having a network of support made a big difference to me. :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me about your experience throughout the whole trip. I have looked at ALM as well, but can I ask why you went through the medical travel agent vs directly through a doctor? I have read some of the reasons both ways, but I would love your input. Thanks again for taking the time to answer me, as well as everyone else who has posted their experience.
