I'm 9 days post op and my body shivers inside every time we pass a Starbucks. The morning routine isn't the same without the sensual sounds of water rushing past those tiny, gravelly coffee beans shooting out liquid morning gold into a warm and percolating coffee pot!
........am I going nuts without coffee yet?
I
THINK
SO!!!
lol... when can I have my sweet Jezebel?!?!?
Not sure who you're referring to Adam, but if you meant me, I went through a coordinator called BeLite Weight, mostly because they offered financing. Had I been cash pay, I may have gone about this differently, but I paid half up front (probably could have gotten away with less if my credit was better, but tons of expenses since xmas on the credit cards etc).
Anyway, I paid $3500 down, and then its $200 a month for the next two years. I spent a little more than other folks here but 1) financing and 2)my doctor lives in america and preforms the surgeries in mexico. He also has a lot of skill as a surgeon, studied in mexico, abroad, and in the united states. Just looking at his incisions a week afterwards, I'm HELLA surprised that i'm not in any pain and they are healing so much omg.
You really can't put a price on your life and I just felt better spending extra for a srsly talented surgeon. Something about paying only $2500 or $3000 for a surgeon plus his team I didn't feel comfortable with. I still got more than 50% off the American rates though.
The other folks are going to good doctors too, I'm sure, but my surgeon has so much education, skill, and experience, he can charge more -- and he still has patients coming every day to mexico for him to do this exact surgery. To put this in perspective, from start to finish, he did my gastric sleeve in an hour. I saw the clock before and after.
If you do go to BeLite Weight, private message me and I'll give you my name - see if you get a discount for a referral - no idea but worth a shot.
Cheers,
Tanya
(ps, the website is beliteweight.com)
Congrats Lindsay!! :D I'm so happy for you! Now you get to look forward to that kick in the gut feeling and suuuuper itchy incisions in about a week haha :) Well done!
Keep up posted, girlfriend! Cheers!
ps - idc what they say - that jello sucked and hurt my tummy after surgery. no no no on the jell - O
I just came across this post, and Im not sure who you are talking about, but I am in my hospital bed in Puerto Valarta, and I have nothing but good things to say about everything. No negatives. I didnt go through middle man, I booked with Dr. Joya and paid 5700. Some other doctors hijacked his site, so make sure you go to the officialdr.joya site. It has official in website name, the other dr joya site are different doctors. I feel great about my decision!
Hello-
Enjoy reading your posts. Can you tell me more on how you found your doctor, does he have a website covering the basics including costs, etc? All I have found is what seems like a middleman company that books for him and several other docs. He seems like the perfect choice we have been looking for but cant find the details on the surgery, costs, etc.
Thanks for any help,
Adam
I just wanted to tell everyone Its done, and Im sooooooo glad. Also, I know that I depended on these forums to help me realize that it was ok to go to Mexico for this procedure. And its true, everyone is sooooo friendly, the hotels are super nice, the hospita is super nice. I even have a little living room attached to my hospital room. My mom has been very comfortable. I do feel like the.re has been excellent. The blood draw was fast and painless, the IV was good, they are giving me pain meds and i had some to relax preop too. The blankets and pillows arw that of a nice hotel. I am extremely comfortable. Dr. Joya was friendly, great bedside manner, and my surgery seems to have went well. Hos coordinator Natalie is great. The only issue so far was a delayed flight and I dont lile the airpot in Mexico City. Once we landed
Most people are able to speak English, and I just cant say enough how impressive my experience has been with Dr Joya at Amerimed hospital!
Now I feel groggy, tired and have a scratchy throat. They have kept mypain imder control, and Im thrilled ots over I was so scared!
I had a really good experience with my doctor His facility is very very clean .
I was treated like I was family by my doctor and his staff.
I had to look up all the doctors that I could before I jumped up and decided.
I studied day and night until I found the right one for me His name is Sergio Quinones and he is a doll.
His staff are so very sweet and they speak English...good for me.
Some of the nurses speak Spanish but their was always some one that could help them talk to me and tell me the procedures that was going to be done on me.
I really do not know to much about Mexico or other hospitals or facility but were I went was sweet. So I hope this is some good info that can and might help you. I f you would like more info please feel free to send me a message back.
GOOD LUCK...hope you have a good journey.
:)
So first off you're not going to die over there. :) They have very talented surgeons just like here. The paradigm, the idea of how things are in Mexico are greatly slanted in the media, I found out when I went there. It's also very different from Mexican Americans living here.
My particular surgeon lives in El Paso, TX and crosses the border to perform his surgeries daily. Now I don't know what his citizenship status is, but he's got a very (VERY) nice house in El Paso lol...
So the particular hospital where I went, Star Medica, had some damn good doctors and nurses. Nothing over there was out of the ordinary. I had a girl take my blood - and my veins are CRAPPPPPP... LIKE BAD. I almost always have someone rolling my veins, sticking thru them, or plain just can't find the damn things. I'm fat so that doesn't help. I have seriously considered tattooing a ---> where it is. NO JOKE. Anyway, rather than just pin cushion me, she took her time. It took her 6 or 8 minutes before finding the spot she wanted but once she stuck me, it was with the butterfly needle (the only one that has ever worked) and WHAM - perfect. I was like "ahhh... BUENO!!"
The hospital staff was good and they were very respectful. It helped when I used my cell phone for google translate for important stuff. Otherwise, most people spoke enough english to get by.
I was rolled down to surgery with the same fears you have now but it was fine. i actually was rolled into recovery to wait and be prepped then the surgery room. i dont remember anything after that other than waking up in recovery. i was out 1 hour, tops. I know this because there was a big clock on the wall and i noticed the time before and after. I kept asking anyone nearby if I'd had the surgery. I was in no pain at all just woozy from the meds but i couldn't figure out if I'd done it or not. lol... they all assured me I had.
After that I was sore, but I was cut, so it was to be expected. Two days later I flew home. Been kick ass ever since - dropped 20lbs or so in a lil over a week. Sounds astonishing but if you go by percentages, it really isn't that much because of how heavy i was: ~315 before preop diet, 305 pre-op, 285 now and surgery was Jan 28. I'm walking around with no problems either - and today I dont even wear bandages on my incisions nor do I have any pain getting up or anything. I went back to work that monday - so about 3 or 4 days after surgery.
Best decision I ever made. If you're here and thinking about it - not going will kill you. Going to Mexico will save your life, not end it.
Good luck :)
So happy for my friend she decided that the surgery is for her.
She is going to have surgery with the same doctor as I did so I hope she will have the same experience as I did.
The truth is she will love Dr.Sergio Quinones and his staff they are so great and sweet people I was amazed.
They treated me as one of their own I felt so at home,it is so peaceful and quit and very clean.
I had let her know that they will to anything she ask for so she feel comforterbul.
I really did have a good experience and I would recommend any body to go to Tijuana and have surgery with my doctor.
I'm so scared to go to mexico to have the procedure. Can anyone share their experience with the area. I don't want to die over there.
