MY HUSBAND HAD LAP RNY 2 WEEKS AGO. HE HAS FOLLOWED THE DIET TO THE LETTER AND HAS ONLY LOST 6 LBS. OF COURSE WE HAVE READ FOR MONTHS ABOUT THE LARGE WEIGHT LOSS OF MOST PEOPLE IN THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS. HE IS REALLY DOWN ON HIMSELF AND I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAD A SLOW START OR IF WE SHOULD BE CONCERNED. THANKS, KIM

How much weight does he need to lose? I am what they would call a light-weight (that term cracks me up ). I am still pre-op, but I don't expect to lose as quickly as others because I don't have as much to lose. I really wouldn't worry about it as long as he is eating the way he is supposed to and getting some walking in. I would wait to worry until he is about a month out & see how he is doing then. His body is probably still trying to adjust to the change. My husband had RNY in September 2004 & I get my surgery next week. So, we will be losers together too! Good Luck to you!

My mom had this Surgery a year ago and she found out that if she was on a platue, she would eat something closer to real food and the more she did that she lost weight, I think your Body goes into Starvation mode and holds onto everything possible, so you might try something out of the ordinary and you might be suprised. Your body will feel like it can lose if its getting something more. Not solid, just different. Candice

Hi Kimberly! I wouldn't worry about your husband's rate of loss at this point. Everyone's body is different. Has he started drinking 64 oz. of water a day? If not, he needs to do so immediately! Drinking that much water doesn't cause you to retain water, it keeps your body's water supply where it need to be. Weight loss can be slowed substantially if you don't drink water. In addition, WLS patients dehydrate very rapidly. I'm sure any day now his body will start turning loose of the weight and he will be amazed how fast he loses. Hank in there, it all averages out!
