Could I be breaking the stall?

Alternating your caloric intake helps to break a plateau. Example: For a few days eat 1000 calories a day, then the 3rd or 4th day eat 1500 calories. Or drink extra calories if you can't eat it. Seems that this will help out. It helps if you jump the calories a bit, like from the 1000 to 1500. I was on a plateau while on a doctor supervised diet several years back and thought maybe eating something high in calories would help. So I got a big mac, large fries and a large Dr. Pepper and ate the whole thing! Next day I was down a full pound. Body thinks it's starving and will hold on to the fat. Also sometimes the plateau is the body's way of catching the body's inches up to the weightloss. You might not be losing pounds but you are losing inches. Good luck on your weight loss. I hope to be joining you on the losing side by summer time!

Thanks for the suggestions Laura. I am wary of upping my calories right now but I might try it if this doesn't break soon. I don't think after surgery I could possibly get in 1500 calories unless I ate butter or had a milkshake. I'd rather not test that - it might cause a craving that would lead me down the path of destruction! But I will keep the 1000 calories in mind if I can't get anywhere. Thanks again! Dina

You're welcome. I've been reading up on all of this weightloss for quite a while and I have read in different places about taking in too little calories. How it causes the body to plateau. I'm learning all that I can before I take a big step! I wish you the best of luck! P.S. I wouldn't eat the butter or the milkshake, more like a protein drink that's about 200 calories or something more like that. Please don't 'beat the RNY' by drinking milkshakes!

Oh Laura! Believe me, I would never drink a milkshake. I was just illustrating how I couldn't get that many calories in without doing something drastic. If I'm eating between 500-600 calories a day, I don't know how I can get an extra 1000 in without doing something like that. I couldn't possibly drink enough protein shakes to do it. Besides - I can't hack that much liquid protein....even if I like it. My stomach just can't cope with it like that. Dina

LOL! Then you'll have to lick a butter stick?? Ugh, that would be nasty, huh? I haven't had any WLS yet and I can't stand the protein drinks much either. How do people drink them? You've already lost half a pound so I bet your body will start dropping more weight quickly, it was just taking a breather! Good luck and God bless!

Dina, sweetie, you are doing just fine. We've all gone through this. I don't think I had that many calories when I first started out. They will increase as you get further out and can eat more. Just relax and do what Dr. A told you to. You'll be fine. As far as plateaus, we all have a different pattern. Some of us lose consistently, and others such as myself go through 3 weeks of plateau and even gain a few pounds, then bam! We lose all of our weight for the month in one week. You're worrying too much. If you were several months out and getting those calories I'd worry about it. Hang in there. Everything's going to be fine. Vicky P.
