I am in the process of scheduling my surgery with Dr. Lopez at the same place.  If you don't mind sharing, how was your experience?  Who did you coordinate your care with?  Would love to read any and all details you want to share.

Thanks so much!

Overall my experience was good... I was on my own and so very nervous about what to expect. My driver picked me right up on time from San Diego. We got across the boarder no problem, we got to the Meriott and there was a coordinator there she helped with the check in... this is a very popular hotel and they know why you are there, I am a very private person so I had a hard time with that at first, but in all honesty the staff are all looking out for you. The day of my surgery they picked me and another lady up to take us to the hospital... they are not the most "on time" people so you have to be prepared for that 7:oo means 7:10 or so... We got to the hospital and another person helped up with our luggage and taking all of our information. they do your blood work right away and they were very good at it. Next they took me up to the operating room floor; again privacy is not a big deal there but I guess I was just so dam nervous that every little thing was making me even more nervous. I changed into a gown and right away they put me in the preoperative area where they put in your IV again done very well... they do an ECG just to check your heart, make you put on stockings for the surgery. The doctors all came and met with me and then the next thing I know I was walking into the OR and laying on the bed; they showed me that all the staple and tools were in a clean sterile environment; the sleeping doctor told me not to worry and to relax and that is literally the last thing that I remember;   I woke up and my surgery was done; I don't really remember where I woke up, but then I was in my room which was just by the nursing station; they came and checked on me regularly and gave me my antibiotics. I asked when I could start walking around and the nurse said as soon as I felt awake enough to hold myself up. I was walking by 2:30 in the afternoon; I brought gasx strips with me and that helped. Surgery day was good and I actually slept a lot that day but tried to walk when I was awake. the next day they do leak test which is really gross; they keep telling to sip sip sip but this guy wanted me drink a lot of this goop that made me very nauseated; it was cool to watch the dye go down. Once that was done it was on to apple juice and gatoraide. the next morning they took me back to the hotel; I got a call from my driver closer to six in the evening to arrange the time he was going to take us back to San Diego... again he was late and it made me nervous but he did show and he did get us to the airport on time;  getting across the boarder was pretty uneventful as they have a medical pass and they look at our passports and asked if we were bringing back any meds; which we were. Honestly now that I have been through it I would do it again in a heartbeat; was it the Canadian hospital experience no... but was it worse... NO.  This has been the best decision of my life and I am down close to 20 pounds 3.5 weeks out. I am looking forward to starting to work out again Food has been a struggle and going through the different stages has been trying and I certainly miss certain things; but I did this for my health and I am glad I did it and I am glad that I used the Mexico Bariatric Centre.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!
