Surgeon Referal from your GP

I'm trying to choose a surgeon in Mexico and I was wondering if any of you got referrals from your General Practitioners (Family Dr), or even a green light and some guidance for heading to Mexico for your WLS?

When my husband told our GP he was going to Mexico to have a VSG done - keep in mind I had RNY done in Canada 5 yrs earlier and have done well and she was all for that - I think all she heard was MEXICO - and to be honest wasn't all the supportive. But - my husband contacted Dr. Joya on his own and we had no physician referral. Didn't need one!

We talked to our GP before booking my VSG with Dr Aceves last June and once I'd told him about my reasons for choosing Dr Aceves he was very supportive. He's done what little aftercare I've needed and had been absolutely great.

My hubby and I are heading back down in a few weeks to have Dr Aceves do his VSG and didn't talk to our GP at all, since we know we don't have to worry about aftercare and that he'll be in excellent hands with Dr Aceves.
