Great idea to get in to your new lifestyle early on. I was very anxious too, I called my insurance company repeatedly once I knew the surgeon accepted me in to the program.

I think I clicked on someone else's and set it up. Then you copy the link and paste it to your signature line in "My OH."
Topic: RE: Saw Dr Haung today
I had an experience with having an internal hernia this summer. I presented to the ER with severe pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. It was the worse pain ever. They first thought it was an appendicitis, but after the CAT scan they couldn't see my appendix but did see dilated small bowel that could be a sign of bowel obstruction. After being admitted I waited 24 hours and thankfully I felt better and was discharged the next day, but unfortunately the pain would come back about 20-30 minutes after I ate. I even asked Dr. Loggins if it could be an internal hernia and he promised me that there was no way it was that because he closes the opening after doing the RNY. Long story short I had an Upper GI, colonscopy and that revealed nothing. I was on zofran for nausea and vicodin for pain for almost a month. As a last resort we decided to doing an exploratory scope and he thought that it could be my ovary, adhesions, appendix, but definitely not a hernia. Well on Aug 23 I had surgery and guess what I did have an internal mesenteric hernia. He thinks that I had lost so much weight that the stitch must have lost hold and opened up the original hole. Luckily no bowel was stuck at the time but everytime I ate the bowel would slide through this opening while digesting food. I was angry at first that I didn't have surgery sooner to fix this problem and that I could have gotten very sick, so I say DO the surgery because the 2 weeks that I was out after the surgery is priceless compared to the months of nonstop pain that I experienced.
Good luck,
Cristy
Good luck,

Topic: RE: Just had surgery on Monday and I'm sad
Hello,
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. You're brave to have gone ahead with your surgery. It's a very loving thing to do for yourself. For me it was a celebration of life. It's not surprising that you're sad. You've had two major traumas (one negative, one positive). You're lucky to have a supportive husband and family. Lots of people don't have that. I find when I focus on the positive, the positive grows. It helps me to make a gratitude list of at least 10 things when I'm feeling down. It works every time!!
Have a great day!!

Topic: RE: Anyone on here that is just starting their journey??
Welcome to the forum! I am not from the Ellsworth area but I am just starting out. I have done my Sleep Study, my seminar and my support group (which I have seen alot of faces from here at the meetings). I have also met with the Physical therapist and Nutrionist. I have to go back to the Nut on the 4th. Hopefully I will be all clear to meet with the Surgeon after that! This is a great group of people! We are lucky to have them!
Topic: Just had surgery on Monday and I'm sad
I just had my surgery on Monday. I feel sad, but I am doing ok. My doctor and his staff have been wonderful. My brother died on Friday and I went ahead with the surgery anyway and I just feel down. I've drinking ok, not getting dehydrated. It takes a long time to get all my pills taken and the liquid postassium and potassium citrate taste awful, but I don't feel any sadness over losing food. I just feel overwhelmed. But I'm dealing. My husband is SO supportive and so is my family. I'm hanging in there! Hope you all have a wonderful day!
Topic: Saw Dr Haung today
I saw Dr Haung today. I have to decide whether i want to have a scope for him to go in and take a look or if i want to live with it for a while. Internal hernias are hard to diagnose unless you are lucky enuf to be at the er during an episode. so I guess i have a decision to make.

Hi, everyone...I finally met with my surgeon for the first time on the 20th. I really liked Dr. Dayhim at EMMC. She has set up and endoscope for me on 1/26/2011. I was wondering now that I have met all of the requirements and they have my Anthem BC/BS and my Tricare insurance how long do I have to wait to hear if my insurance will approve my RNY.
Do they call me? Does my insurance companies call me or send me a letter? Or should I wait until next week and call the surgeons office and ask them? As you can tell, I am very excited to be given that magical date which is; looking like it will be in February. Fingers crossed and praying!
I am assuming the endoscope is a normal test they do prior to surgery to check for ulcers and tumors. With the spicy foods this body has eaten over the years, I am positive that I do not have ulcers.
Dr. Dayhim told me she wanted me to lose at least eight pounds before my surgery. I have been watching what I have been eating since October and have decided to make sure my weight is off before the 26th that I will switch to drinking two protein drinks and eating one normal meal a day with more veggies and no carbs along with two healthy snacks a day.
Do any of you have any suggestions on how I curb this horrid anxiety caused by the waiting. I swear I am worse than a kid waiting for Santa is. I keep checking my email, my mail and my online insurance sites waiting to see the Stamp of Approval for my surgery.
I love reading everyone’s posts and some day maybe I will post more instead of just reading everyone’s messages. This board is very helpful and I appreciate your honesty.
