Topic: RE: Back to work yesterday. Surprisingly tired...
Hi Kim,
Dr. Dayheim is the doc who approved my discharge on Day 3. She seems very nice, and very knowledgeable. (That was my only interaction with her so far.) She very quickly reminded me not to cross my legs, when she saw me do it in the hospital bed (as that can cause an increase in risk for blood clots.) Right on the ball, she is.
I was lucky enough to be pain-free until Sunday, when I pushed it to far. I paid the price. I hope you never have that pain feeling that I had, because I ate to much, but if you have it, you will know it, I promise that! I was able to eat 2-3oz right off the bat, so I guess I didn't know what I was thinking on Sunday. Ouch.
Monday and Tuesday at work were an absolute bear for me, I was wiped by noon. I mean, just totally exhausted. But yesterday (Day #3 back to work) wasn't so bad, and I still had energy to do Monday and Tuesday's unwashed dishes and pick up the kitchen a little bit, and make dinner for my wife and I.
It amazes me...I bought ONE chicken breast. Cut it in half, and froze half, and cooked the other half. So 8oz of chicken was now in the freezer (it was a 1lb chicken breast), and I cooked 8oz. Of the 8oz I cooked, I immediately set 4oz aside for lunch/dinner today (all cooked, just have to re-heat!), and cut the 4oz piece in half, giving my wife 2oz, and me 2oz. And NEITHER of us finished our 2oz piece. We both ate a full 30 minutes, and stopped, like we're supposed to, but neither of us could finish our piece. Amazing. In that past, I could easily eat two (smaller) breasts, or one whole one that size. Now, I wasn't even interested. Probably a topic for a future post... :-)
Who knows, maybe my wife and I will end up at your campground this summer. I love MDI, and I haven't spent much time down there the last 4-5 years, because, well, life (and weight) happens. But both of us are looking forward to much more active summers this year. :-)
Congratulations on your big step!!! I wish you all the success!!!

Topic: RE: Back to work yesterday. Surprisingly tired...
Hey David,
I have my 2 week follow up on Monday. Dr. Toder is my surgeon but they made my appointment with Dr. Dayheim. I guess Dr. Toder is away that day. I can't say that I have been pain free but every day the pain is getting better. I too was able to leave the hospital on day 3. I have found that I am lactose intolerant. My husband brought me home some lactaid Milk yesterday. Seems to be doing better. I am still having problems getting all my food in. I can only get in about 1 to 2 oz. When I called Dr. Toder she said that was normal and just to keep trying but don't pu**** too much. I am supposed to go back to work next week. I have a desk job so hopefully I will be ok. Thankfully I work just part time right now. I work for a campground so I will have a few weeks before we open up and my hours picking up. I can hardly do anything without getting exhausted. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
Take care
Kim

Congrats Sasha on joining us on the losers bench. Dr. Toder is my surgeon also, I had my surgery on March 14th. I was able to go home on day 3 thankfully. Just keep walking it does really help. The weight that comes off is quite amazing. Good luck on your journey and we are here for you.

Topic: Flying after surgery?
Hi All!! I am having LapRNY on May 13th and my father wants to send me and my son plane tickets to Florida (where he lives) for a couple weeks after surgery (probably after my 2 wk followup). Is it ok to fly then?

David, I work at MCMHC... I remember you. If you look in my profile and look at my before picks you will remember me too I bet.

Congrats Sasha! I am glad Dr. Toder found the hernia and glad that I have chosen her as my surgeon as well! I will be having RNY in May. Please keep us updated on your progress :)
