Honestly, I didn't need a thing at the hospital. After surgery I mostly slept and amazingly, was discharged the next afternoon! I made sure I had comfy clothes to wear home (nothing with a tight waistband) and easy- to- get- on shoes would be good. I was swollen and it was hard to get my shoes on to go home. :) Best of luck to you!!

I did get a list of things to bring, but wanted input from you guys on things you felt were important to have.  15 days and counting till surgery! Oh, also first day of my liquid diet!!!!!

I use a blend of choc. whey protein and French vanilla slim fast blended with lots of ice and some milk to get the consistency you want. I sip on this while working out at the gym it keeps my energy up and fills me up as well.
I also use frozen strawberries and choc. whey protein blended with milk tastes very good as well. keep mixing things up and you won't get so bored.
I use protein powders twice a day and eat a regular meal in the evening. For lunch I usually mix vanilla with yogurt and fruit and kashi cereal for some crunch.

Hi Allison,

I use GNC 100% whey chocolate flavored.  I'm with David on disliking the vanilla flavors!  Don't spend a lot of money stocking up before your surgery.  I had a few different types of protein powders before my surgery that I liked, but after surgery I couldn't stand the taste of them and had to try a whoooooole bunch out before I finally found one I liked!  I also had trouble tolerating whey protein in the first few weeks after surgery (bathroom issues), but it was fine after 2 weeks and I use a whey protein every day now.

Best wishes to you!

Topic: Dec. 5th!!!
I got my date, Dec. 5th, RNY.  I was really nervous about getting approval from my insurance, but all went through and I am finally on my way!!  I do have a question in regards to testing prior to surgery.  I had blood work done a few weeks ago and that was it.  Is there more to preop work besides the two week liquid diet? I got in the mail today a paper confirming my date and the time of surgery, I am just surprised at how I haven't had to do more.

DEFINITELY JANUARY 9, 2012!!!!!  I just got off the phone with the surgeon's office and they said the info had been sent to the OR for confirmation and a time for me to get pre-op testing and a time for me to be there on the 9th.  Yay me!!!!  :)
